My first time telling a story at work does not go as I expect. Actually, it's worse than that. It's the type of performance that you hope to forget. This humbling experience reminds me of a simple fact: Without the OOMPH, your story won't fully touch someone. My first time...the magic, the OOMPH, is missing. I think that the story alone is enough to create that connection. The entire time I tell the story, my emotional walls are up. I feel uncomfortable sharing anything deeply personal or vulnerable to anyone. And the worst part is that I don't think anyone would care if I do. So I avoid talking about these challenging parts. Can you guess the problem? I do not believe that: → the emotional part of my story matters → people care to listen to my feelings → sharing them would make a difference 💡The magic of storytelling starts with you and your belief. If you don't believe your story matters, ↳You won't share the difficult parts with anyone. ↳You'll keep your wisdom to yourself. ↳You won't leave a mark on someone's life. Believe that your entire story matters. Your listeners will believe it matters too. #storytelling #emotions #publicspeaking #lifelessons #personaldevelopment

Want to know the quickest way to lose a big audience? Start with "GOOD MORNING EVERYONE! Let's try that again (with the hopes of getting a bigger reaction) GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!" It's so cringe. When you ask people to reciprocate words or energy without giving them anything first, it becomes about validating you and not them. A better alternative is to start with a personal story that has led you to talk about the topic. It's a surefire way to grab attention, build connection and make a positive impression.
