Another great example of a great job that is outside of a city. Selkirk is a smaller city close to Winnipeg. And believe me the drive going outside of a city in the morning is ALOT more relaxing than driving into a city. If you really don't want to live outside a city, and are willing to commute, then do this: ➡️ Look at all the towns that are outside of where you live ➡️ Figure out the distance you are willing to drive daily ➡️ Find the companies in those towns that positions you might be interested in ➡️ Start connecting with them, follow them, reach out to their HR department to have a chat. #internationalstudents #refugees #immigrants #newcomers #canadianbusinesses

Is Your Team Running Scared in the Current Market? The tech landscape is tougher than ever. But there's a silver lining for those ready to adapt. Here are some of my tactics for turning market challenges into team-building triumphs. 🌅 Eye on the Horizon: Share the long-term vision regularly. Remind your team why their work matters and how it contributes to the larger goal. 🎯 Get Lean: Start by ensuring every role and team member is essential and high-performing. Tough decisions lead to a more dedicated team. 🔄 Open Channels: Transparency is key. Regular updates and open dialogue about company challenges and successes make your team feel valued and involved. The path through a tough market is paved with goal alignment and transparent communication. Implement these strategies to transform morale challenges into opportunities for growth and team success. ✍️ Thoughts? Comment below. ♻️ Reshare if you agree.

When I started I was full of ideas. But no plan. I had a vision, but it was blurry I wanted to build something big, but I was not sure how. I built a small, but energetic team. And today we're a team of 60+ folks... Here’s the thing that people must know — vision is not always clear at first. In the beginning, you don’t have the perfect picture (Both for your vision & photo album - this one is a perfect example) It starts vague. A feeling. A spark. But as you start moving, it gets clearer. Your actions start giving you direction. - You’ll stumble - You’ll fail - But you keep going And you start to see the path. What I’ve learned is that Self-belief is everything. If I didn’t believe in myself back then I wouldn’t be here now. So, if you’re unsure: - Take that first step - Move out of your comfort zone, explore - Work on that idea that you think is stupid It won't be stupid years later When it'll finally pay off. Don't be scared to step out The path will find you.

One of the most important parts of my role is focused on building a strong team. To do this effectively, I need to hone the ability to identify talented individuals, likely to be a great fit with the rest of the team. As with any skill, repetition is essential for improvement and advancement. My philosophy is to maintain a regular cadence of meeting with people even when we don’t have immediately open positions. This creates the opportunity to expand the network, get an understanding of what the talent pool looks like and start to identify patterns of what motivates people. I find meeting with 3 to 4 people a month works well for our current company size. Even though often there is no immediate good fit, sometimes a suitable opportunity may come up down the track. Regardless, I always try to provide constructive feedback or connect people with other organizations which may be better aligned with their goals. Feel free to reach out if you’d be keen for a catch-up sometime.

How do you assemble a dream team? 💡 Samantha Hornsby, co-founder of ERIC, shares a tip: look for those who are totally on board with your mission from the get-go. It’s not the resume that counts; what really matters is their genuine desire to make a difference and the way they've already shown it, even before joining the team. 💪 At ERIC, everyone on the team is super passionate about increasing access to opportunities in the creative industries. They're all in it together! 👥 Curious about how they make it happen? Check it out here 👉️ https://lnkd.in/e2-Grfpg

The power of new talent: When you first start a new role early in your career, you lack experience and institutional knowledge, but you bring the JUICE. You're excited to be there and every day is an opportunity. When you settle in and become a veteran, it's easy to become jaded and lose a bit of that fire. At that point, use your experience to pour into your newer colleagues and feed off their energy. You'll be surprised how much that can reignite a whole team.

Don't look to build the perfect team. A high-performing team is a group with skills and personalities that complement one another. If you hire the same kind of person for every role in your team, you will build a one-dimensional team. Hire for personality. Hire for team-fit. Hire for attitude. Hire for diversity. Then train the skills to fit the needs of the team with a growth mindset.
