“How Much Should You Charge as a Social Media Manager? Last week, a fellow social media manager reached out to me and told me she had landed an amazing job opportunity but was nervous about the upcoming interview. Her main worry was how much should she charge her new client? I could hear the anxiety in her voice: "What if I charge too much and scare them off?" "What if I undersell myself and get stuck with too little?" Here’s the advice I gave her, and it's something I believe every freelancer needs to know: Firstly, Your pricing should reflect the value you bring to the table, not just the number of hours you work. Are you helping your client grow their business, increase visibility, or generate leads? If yes, that’s value worth paying for. Your pricing should align with the results you can help deliver. Secondly, before the interview, ask questions to understand your client’s budget. This helps you gauge if they're serious about investing in their business or just looking for a bargain. Be clear about the kind of services and strategy they’re getting from you. Thirdly, Pricing shouldn’t just be based on the hours spent managing their social media but the impact of the work. Content strategy, analytics, engagement, and building their brand voice all hold value. Bundle these into your offering and charge accordingly. Fourthly, Negotiation is part of the process, but don’t compromise on your worth. If the client isn’t willing to pay what you’re worth, maybe they aren’t the right client for you. Lastly, I always advise setting a minimum rate for your services. If you’re not sure, look at industry standards or ask other professionals in your network. You can also create tiered pricing for different service packages (e.g., basic management vs. full strategy and content creation). So, what did she do? I advised her to confidently communicate her value during the interview and charge based on the results she could deliver. She walked into the interview with clarity and walked out with not only the job but at a rate she was happy with! Clients are paying for results, not just time. Don’t undervalue your skills, Know your worth, communicate it clearly, and don’t be afraid to stand your ground. 💪🏾 Do you have any other advise to add? Hope you're all looking forward to Easter.. I've just had a post published on Forbes with some of the best questions to ask a Marketer in an interview. How do you know if the person sitting opposite you is pulling the wool over your ears? Maybe they used Ai to put together a perfect resume for the role. This article will give you some ammunition to really test their metal. :) In fact, It's why we created Your Digital Future Ltd | Digital Recruitment Specialists | BCorp Pending Certification a couple of years ago with Rebecca Ridler. LinkedIn is severely limiting reach for organic posts and job adverts. It's clear the direction of travel is towards 'pay to play'. LinkedIn is still an important weapon in your hiring arsenal, but it has to be part of a larger strategy. Use it to connect with people, then move them towards your own 'real estate'.

I've seen lots of posts recently about support. Supporting family, colleagues, suppliers, other businesses... One easy way that you can support your colleagues is by engaging with their social media content. Many people don't post content, but those that do normally put time and thought into it. And they want to make it count. Here's why engagement with a post matters: 💡 Although the algorithm loves comments, even a simple 'like' makes a small difference to who may see the post 💡 Tagging other people who may also engage can be a great post booster - as long as they reciprocate. If they don't, that's a 'no' from LinkedIn 💡 A comment can add as many as 12 additional views of your post, so go on, support someone today and take a moment to 👍 a post Stuck in a rut with posting? I fumbled in a job interview once for a marketing role. I drew a blank when a hiring manager asked me to name thought leaders I admired in the B2B space. I wasn’t familiar with the term ‘thought leader’ yet because it just started to gain popularity. If you've ever felt lost in naming influential leaders or need inspiration in B2B marketing, this list is for you. They’ve helped shape my mindset and approach to B2B marketing. 👉 Wes Kao for operator tips 👉 Brianna Doe for career tips 👉 Jess Cook for copywriting tips 👉 Katy McFee for leadership tips 👉 Ann Handley for copywriting tips 👉 Emma Stratton for messaging tips 👉 Mary Keough for B2B marketing tips 👉 Mike Wolber for motivational content 👉 Devin Reed for content strategy content Who’d I miss?
