Not Letting Unemployment Define Me 🌟 Desperate times call for desperate measures. 🌟 Two weeks ago, I started a night/weekend job at a catering hall for cash while continuing my search to get my CAREER back. It wasn’t what I envisioned for myself, but life has a way of humbling us. 💔 After losing my fiancé nearly a year ago and my HR career slipping away, everything I worked for feels at risk. Bills, foreclosure threats, and turn-off notices pushed me into survival mode. At first, I stood in front of the mirror, tears streaming down my face, feeling my pride, dignity, and self-esteem shatter as I took on a role I never imagined. I tend to women in the ladies’ room of a fancy catering hall, listening as they share stories about careers, kids, and travels—things I once had, things I hope to have again. But as I approach week three, I’m finding my strength again: 💛 I remind myself this is TEMPORARY and not who I am. 💛 I’m friendly, meeting new people, and embracing the opportunity to connect. 💛 I take pride in my work, no matter what I’m doing. At the end of the night, the kind words of gratitude fill me with a sense of accomplishment. It’s not easy, but I’m making lemonade out of lemons 🍋 and seeing the forest through the trees 🌳. 💪 To anyone in a similar position: don’t let unemployment define you. You are not your circumstances. Keep pushing, stay hopeful, and remember, every step forward matters. #UnemploymentJourney #MakingLemonade #HRProfessional #Resilience #CareerComeback #JobSearchJourney #NeverGiveUp #TemporaryNotForever #LifeAfterLoss #StrengthInAdversity #NetworkingEverywhere
This has to be one of the hardest times to be un or under employed. I applaud your positive attitude and your ability to see gratitude in everything. You are totally right. It's all temporary. Much success in your new role. Sending positive vibes your way.
Do not ever be ashamed of taking steps to survive. Everyone understands that bills have to be paid. I was recently on this journey. After 11 months of searching and relocation to another state, I found my perfect job! Patience and perseverance will pay off and the right job will come to you at the right time. In the meantime, do what you need to do. Good luck!
Thank you so much for posting this Diane M. Evans, I am now in my 8th week of searching and I have no doubt that God will place me in an even better position than what I was in. It is so nice to see people encouraging others to keep moving forward in a time of opportunity. Thank you again for your encouragement.
Thank you for this. I needed it this morning. I posted something last night similar to this and I deleted it. You have shown me that certain circumstances happen and we do what we need to do to get by. I have been out of work for a year and 2 months and still working at it.
Amen! I am so proud of you for doing what you are doing and having being an example to others by writing about it!!! This resonated with me because I had the same experience years ago in my job search. I found that if you keep a positive attitude and an open mind, all jobs have so much to teach us; and sometimes leads us down an amazing path we would have never chosen. You go girl!!
Tell us in bullet points the job you WANT and your skill sets. Lots of people will see it! Come on everyone! Who is looking for a great person who is looking for a new career or job?!!
It is the craziest, worst, and sickening job market in my lifetime. PERIOD. FUBAR! Good luck. 🤞
You are amazing. I’m going through the same. My fiance passed 5 months ago.
A catering job sounds fun.

1moDiane, thank you for your transparency and vulnerability. You are truly my hero for openly sharing how challenging it can be for people to strive to be the best version of themselves, especially when it feels like the walls are closing in. This might sound corny, but I genuinely believe that something great is just around the corner for you, and I’m rooting for you every step of the way. Throughout my career and life, I’ve had to reinvent myself, often creating roles or opportunities from seemingly nothing. That’s exactly what you’re doing, and it’s inspiring to witness. Thank you for reminding all of us navigating the job hunt that we can find strength in this journey — yours and ours. We love and appreciate you! 😍
