This is why I think companies that post job openings should be obligated to hire the first person that answers. If you post a fake opening, and someone answers it, you're going to be stuck with an employee you never had an intention of hiring in the first place. Whereas if you were forced to hire the first person that answered, then you would be *VERY* careful about posting a job opening in public, and would want to search through an available pool of candidates looking for work.

The job search is hard right now. I have applied to over 200 roles since March 30, 2024. I get it, I do the market has so many talented individuals looking for work these companies can be selective. With that being said, I’d like to share a position posting I came across today. My question to you is would you still apply to this role where they clearly do not have the attention to detail that is clearly mentioned? Do you think that if there was a typo on your resume you’d make it to interview? * while I completely understand human error, we all make mistakes, it is the process of AI and screening of candidates where they ask us to have these things but don’t reflect it in their own job posting *

Remember, it isn't always the most qualified applicants who get the interview; the applicants who can show they're the most qualified. It's an entirely different skill set. You're utilizing your sales and marketing skills when looking for a job, regardless of industry or title. It's tough to get an interview if the reader is having trouble navigating your resume and if you aren't providing specific information. Resumes are so much more than keywords and phrases. Do you want your resume to match the job posting's buzzwords? Yes. Not because of AI or an ATS but because the recruiter needs to know you've done the work required in the job posting. It isn't just "these are the skills I've used." You also have to show 1) how you used the skills and 2) how successfully you've used them. By not just providing "content," but also including context and accomplishments, you present a much clearer picture of your background and relevance for the job you're applying for. This not only demonstrates your skills but also showcases your achievements. In this job market, when competition is fierce among SO MANY qualified jobseekers, recruiters will initially spend just a few seconds reviewing your resume, so make your opportunity count.

Life Before COVID-19 You would apply to and interview with no more than two or three organizations and typically be hired within two to three weeks of starting your job search. Life After COVID-19 (2024) You now apply to hundreds of jobs, interview for only a dozen, face rejection from AI systems, get ghosted by recruiters, and often undergo multiple rounds of interviews for each position that interests you, all over the course of several months. Updating your CV based on expert advice might eventually land you a job, but it can feel like “one eternity later.” Then, the cycle often repeats due to a toxic, unhappy, unethical, and dangerous work environment. The Employment Guide book I should write but I won’t. In the age of AI nothing is hidden. Does your resume on line match your on line presence and interests? Clients are absolutely doing social media back checks to re qualify candidates they are interested in. It’s not always a does this person fit in with our culture?. It’s what else do they do to take from their focus from our job ? How much productivity time and energy would we lose because of it.? These are real things. Clients are monolithic these days in their hiring.Gone are the days of “Tell me about yourself interviews “ Now it’s “ what can you do for me today hitting the ground running” Resumes to [email protected]

Things I've learned that may help your #recruiting team from a candidates perspective. ✨ "Why do you want to work here?" - Let's break that down from a candidate perspective. It's time consuming, lacks personalization, creates stress for the job seeker, and discourages potentially qualified applicants that perceive it as bureaucratic. Instant "interviews". Right after applying you get a AI email asking you to complete a test or one way video "interview". That's the laziest recruiting I've ever seen. If you looked at my profile, you'd see why taking a test to prove I can do the job when I have almost two decades experience and multiple certifications is insulting. Rejection emails only serve to lower self worth and esteem. Think about it. What is the actual benefit to the candidate in be told they are being passed up? #CandidateSurvey. Are you kidding me? You don't select me for the job (which is totally fine- I get it) and want me to go through your survey about candidate experience? I can tell you- you won't get high scores if you send this out. I 100% know being a #Recruiter is not an easy job, but please be mindful of the #candidateexperience and what job seekers are going through.

We are moving towards an AI driven world and yet most job application sites always ask you tons of questions which are already on the resume. It's mostly irritating at times as it's considered double work which is inefficiency at its best. Job application is supposed to be simple and precise and the complex part should be during the interview that targets the job tasks specifically. What are your thoughts on this?

Something I’ve noticed a lot lately as I’m finally starting to get follow ups on the jobs I’ve been applying to the last few months: I’m getting interviews scheduled for jobs where I suspect my resume, cover letter, and portfolio have been reviewed by actual humans, while the organizations I assume are using algorithmic & AI resume reviews are hitting me with a ton of auto rejection emails. I get that technology makes peoples’ lives easier, but it will never compare to a human’s instincts, intuition, reasoning, and rationale. Food for thought. EDIT/UPDATE: I wrote this from my physical therapy bed this morning, and after reading it back I realize this may have come off privileged or a little too self-indulgent. By no means do I think I should get an interview scheduled for every job I apply to, and I realize how many of us are going after all these positions. But I am qualified for the jobs I'm going after, and I think based on some of the comments this has received a lot of us are in alignment that you can tell. And as a candidate, I would much rather work for the organization that takes the time to review my application and the work I've done in my career than one that runs it through some software.
