💡This reflection from Lynne Seagle rings so true in the current NDIS climate. An over emphasis on compliance and enforcement is the antithesis to positive behaviour support. A regulatory paradigm shift is needed - to a model that breaks down administrative barriers and empowers staff to do their work well. ✅Today, make a point to check in with your staff and provide them with positive feedback on everything that is going well in their work. Then, ask them what they need from you to help them do their work even better.

This is a very transparent and reflective statement. As an Employment Services Manager often what we look at is motivation and how is that an inherent driver of success and engagement in the workplace. Punishment is not the way to go. What is the goal in the end? You will not scare people into being better staff members. Consequences for sure if appropriate in the situation, as we are responsible for people, but punishment no. To teach, to have accountability, to have a supportive environment, to have honest and accurate collaboration if challenges are faced or if problems are noticed? If a ball is dropped, noting if a ball is dropped and picking up that ball together as a team to see if we can do better, that is the way to go.
