I think this might be one of the best explanations about how to approach modularity. Code executed at scale must perform well. But how do we know if our performance optimizations actually make a difference? Taking a step back, how do we even know what we need to optimize? First, we might need to discover hidden assumptions in the code, or figure out how to isolate the performance-critical bits. Even once we know what must be optimized, it's challenging to create reliable before-and-after benchmarks. We can only tell if our changes helped by profiling, improving, measuring, and profiling again. Without these steps, we might make things slower without realizing it. Specific, valuable, measurable digital twin use cases are emerging across nearly every industry. This is a great example of a use case that most would never think of - beach erosion. Beaches are subject to highly uncertain forces, and traditional analytical tools fail without sufficient fidelity and frequency of data capture. The digital twin provides the underlying source of truth for analytics, simulation and prediction, and measurement of prediction vs actual change. When decision makers trust the underlying data represents the real world, and can see the delta between predictive insights and real world changes over time, they are far more likely to trust the solution and base their decisions on data. #digitaltwin #assetmanagement #data

Love this session from Laïla Bougriâ at NDC Conferences #NDCOslo this year talking about the fine line between awesome and awful and how to stay on the right side of it. Distributed systems are becoming increasingly common in today's systems landscape, and messaging is often used to coordinate between components in these systems safely.
