Balancing Internal User Requests !! When leading internal products, especially for sales teams, managing feature requests while maintaining long-term product goals is tricky. Sales often push for valuable but numerous features, which can easily clutter your product. The challenge is prioritizing what aligns with the product’s core vision while still keeping internal users satisfied. Although these tips may seem basic, they’re key to finding the right balance: 🔹 Ruthless Prioritization: Will this feature truly benefit the majority, or just a vocal few? 🔹 Simplicity Matters: Sales teams need intuitive tools that work smoothly, not complex solutions. 🔹 Test with MVPs: Validate requests with lightweight MVPs before committing to full builds. Finding the balance is never easy, but a well-prioritized, shared roadmap helps manage expectations while delivering real value. Have you faced similar challenges? I agree with Sherif Hamed. You have to find a balance between user requests and your long term product vision. I've found that maintaining your eye on the long term product vision while doing just enough to appease your key stakeholders works best. As a marketeer I also feel that you should be releasing a minimum of three new products each year that have a marketing impact. Good features tend to market themselves and your company can complement them with a marketing campaign. Most importantly they allow you to bring to light the importance of the having a good product team. On 4.2.24 I attended A Sales Growth Company training. It offered a lot of value. But... One thing that stood out to me was when Keenan . briefly mentioned, "Product-Centric Buying" as a concept. He didn't go into much detail, so I have been trying to unpack that from an #enablement perspective. What I gathered from the brief introduction was the idea that people (or companies) tend to look for a product to solve a problem before defining what the true problem is. They have not clarified (for themselves) what the current state is, what they want their future state to look like, and what impact solving the actual problem will have on their slice of the business, or the business overall. What does that lead to? Longer shopping cycles. Misguided attention on the shiny new thing. Tech bloat. Wasted resources, including cash and time. And ultimately, the real possibility of, solving the wrong problem. So, I want to hear from you (and maybe even Keenan): What framework you would develop to move away from "Product-Centric Buying" to "Problem-Centric Buying"? -What Questions Do you Ask Yourself & Your Team? - Who Do you involve when you believe the problem you are solving is only for your team/department? - How to think globally to make sure if you are solving a problem it has impact on the entire organization?
