What exactly is thought leadership? 💡Thought leadership is not just about being knowledgeable; it’s about being a guiding light in your industry. 💡 It involves crafting insightful, forward-thinking, expertise-rooted, content that pushes the envelope, offering new perspectives and solutions that address prevailing or emerging issues. Here’s what makes genuine thought leadership stand out: 💫 Authority: You need a deep, well-articulated understanding of your subject. Your content should showcase a level of expertise that inspires trust and establishes your credibility. 💫 Innovativeness: It’s about bringing something new to the table — whether it’s a fresh idea, a novel approach, or an unexpected solution to a common problem. 💫 Value: Your content must educate, engage, and add value, helping your audience tackle challenges or seize opportunities they hadn’t considered before. By developing your thought leadership content with these principles in mind, you not only enhance your brand’s reputation but also contribute meaningfully to the ongoing conversations in your field. Make your by-lines count. 💡📈 #ThoughtLeadership #ContentStrategy #B2B #B2BMarketing #PublicRelations #InstinctToBeDistinct

How I put in the daily work and strive to become a thought leader. I think that's the whole point here on LinkedIn. It's not: - posting twice a day - commenting for over an hour - developing your personal brand Developing a personal brand is worthless, if you're still part of the status quo. Being a thought leader is being a contrarian. It's not developing a personal brand. It's working towards making an impact and fostering a movement. That's starts with a daily habit of thought leadership. To be a thought leader, you need 4 things: (1) Be different. Express your different. It's no longer about being better. There are too many choices and too many better mousetraps out there. Regurgitating what has already been said by someone else too many times is not different. It's boring. (2) Express your unique point of view (POV). Your POV shares what you 'stand for' and 'stand against'. It shares your own own framework. Your content should cause people to think, not react. If you're part of an existing framework, call yourself an expert, and don't get people to think, you're part of the status quo - and part of the noise. (3) Share content that changes their perspective. Developing a unique POV story helps shift people's thinking, leading to a changed perspective. This is powerful—Henry Ford revolutionized transportation with the Model T by asking, "What else is possible?" instead of delivering a faster horse. Ask yourself this question to discover new possibilities, inspire others, and change their perspective. (4) Be relatable and build relationships. We’ve transitioned from lead generation in the Attention Economy to the Relationship Economy and demand generation. To understand this, look in the mirror and ask, "How do I buy?" If you research online, so do your customers. People don’t want to be sold to—they want to buy from those they like, know, and trust. You've got to create demand while building relationships. Find your 'inner' thought leader. Focus on building relationships while changing perspectives. Turn it into a habit. P.S. Drop your thoughts below or send me a message. Let's lead the way together! P.P.S. P.S. Please repost ♻️ to help others tap into their 'inner' thought leader!

True thought leadership cannot be outsourced... The fundamental problem lies with agencies who offer engagement services and clients (founders) who want agencies to do it for them. I am against this practice. One might argue that this puts my service in the same category but there's a difference. I get on calls with clients and ask them questions about 2 things: 1. Their target audience's pain points. 2. Their industry\niche. Each and every piece of content created is based on the conversation we have on these calls. But commenting on behalf of clients doesn't make sense to me. It isn't possible (or maybe it is but it becomes VERY annoying and time-consuming) to prompt your client every second a comment is made on their post. If a founder is a subject matter expert and wants to have genuine conversations with their network - then the founder needs to dedicate time every day to engage with their audience on LinkedIn. LinkedIn is already full of fluffy content. The last thing we need is more half-a*sed thought leadership.

❓How to promote a business when there’s a news drought? 💡Thought leadership. While there’s plenty of debate about the phrase “thought leadership” and what it means; at the core it’s about promoting expertise and that will always be relevant. It’s especially relevant during a dip in news coming out of the business. The purpose of any communications function, agency or professional is to protect and enhance reputation, and to support the sales effort. Thought leadership serves both purposes neatly. It’s an effective way to establish a reputation for being an expert on a topic, which in turn drives financial performance. How? Well, all customers, consumers and businesses, have a choice; and accepting there will always be other factors at play, that choice will come down to value. What is the best that I can get for the money I am willing to spend? It’s no surprise that – particularly for services businesses – expertise is a major part of that value calculation. It is for that reason we have done more and more thought leadership work for our clients in the twelve years since I launched Seymour PR. My peers will agree that extracting the expertise is not always easy though. A few lessons: 💡Sniff out the expert on the topics that are most important to the business reputationally and/or commercially. 💡Note - that individual is not always the most senior person, so make sure you can navigate egos effectively. 💡Show up to the meeting with a lot of open questions and ask for forgiveness at the outset; explain you need to position the knowledge in plain English and that involves lots of questions. 💡 Ask ‘why’ until you understand the intricacies of the subject matter. 💡Don’t let the message get lost in the approval process. Clarity is key. In my experience businesses have a load of expertise but need support from their communications team or agency to ensure it is expressed in a way that sets them out as real experts. If you’re scratching your head on where to start your thought leadership journey - drop me a message, always happy to share my thinking. Happy Friday. #pragency #mediarelations #thoughtleader #B2BPR
