Today, we recognize and celebrate the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of Indigenous peoples. Indigenous Peoples' Day is not only a time for reflection on the past but also a moment to acknowledge the ongoing struggles many Indigenous communities face today. As we work toward a more equitable and just society, it’s crucial to listen, learn, and support Indigenous voices. In public health, we must acknowledge the unique health disparities faced by Indigenous communities—addressing chronic diseases, access to healthcare, and combating the systemic barriers that contribute to health inequities. At NACDD and ProVention Health, we are committed to ensuring that our efforts in chronic disease prevention and public health include and uplift Indigenous populations. We believe that health equity means leaving no community behind. Let’s take this day to honor Indigenous resilience, support Indigenous leaders, and commit to action that drives positive change. #IndigenousPeoplesDay #HealthEquity #PublicHealth #ChronicDiseasePrevention #IndigenousVoices

My colleague Naja Carina Steenholdt and I have written an article on the consequences of the increasing centralization of the Greenlandic society and how community engagement, citizen involvement, and Indigenous knowledge are key to counteract such consequences. The article is part of a special edition released by The Global Governance Project 'Health: A Political Choice – Advancing Indigenous Peoples' Rights and Well-Being'. https://lnkd.in/d7dKDM-5

Gradually, we slipped step by step, but failed to realise or we were living in complacency. It's time to rediscover ourselves once again, do what's right, and return them the RIGHT. No matter what. The #WorldHealthDay this year has created a great opportunity towards more collective actions and cooperation at each and every level

The Sexual Assault Awareness Month April 2024 theme is "Building Connected Communities". Men and women must be safe in the communities that they reside and work in. For this to become a tangible reality, it will take the village's effort, beginning with awareness which transitions into action. "Addressing the social and structural determinants of health, such as education, income, employment, community safety, and social support, is crucial to improving the conditions in which we live, learn, work, and play. In a connected community, we can look out for one another and make choices to promote health, safety, and well-being. Building Connected Communities brings us closer to the goal of health equity. Health equity means that everyone, no matter their situation, has a chance to achieve their best possible health, creating a fair and just opportunity for all to reach their highest level of well-being (PI & NSVRC 2021)." #SexualAssaultAwareness

A Pact for the Future or the Future of the Pact? We acknowledge the UN Summit of the Future as a far-reaching agenda seeking to address a number of pressing and often intersecting global challenges. Yet, despite the many months and years of study, consultation and negotiation in lead-up to the Summit, its final action-oriented outcome document, The Pact for the Future, continues to risk relinquishing a major global challenge and a key determinant to the success of the 2030 #SDG Agenda and beyond: Health. On behalf of the Health ImPACT Coalition, a formally recognised group of more than 300 health civil society organisations and affected community advocates from across the globe, we take this opportunity to raise and reiterate our key areas of ongoing concern in Revision 4 of the ‘Pact’.
