The Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence is using community-led philanthropy that empowers recipients, shifts power dynamics and enables sustainable, community-driven solutions for survivors of domestic violence, writes the organization's executive director Maria Corona for Pillars of Philanthropy. "Equity-focused philanthropy moves away from hierarchical and institutional practices that harm and exert power over the very people and communities they intend to support, instead fostering 'power-with' and trust-based relationships with grantees," Corona wrote.

Please consider fundraising for The DV Collective during this years #16 days activism against gender based violence. One in Four Women are impacted by Domestic and Family Violence. Unfortunately the support services are underfunded and under resourced and women are being turned away. The DV Collective currently supports over 160 front line services including over 30 women's shelters and hundreds of transitional homes. We meet with each of them to understand the impact they provide, the barriers to them providing that support and how they can support more women and children. If they are a shelter supporting 10 women tonight, how can we assist them so they can support 20 women tomorrow. A woman escaping domestic violence requires safe shelter, access to a case worker, access to legal support to be able to navigate the court system, wrap around essential services, including material aid such as furniture, phones, laptops, food and the basics. Safety and recovery programs aimed to re-build emotional and financial independence. The organisations that provide this support are our members. Currently they are unable to provide these services to the women and children reaching out for help, but we are going to change this. We connect our members to additional resources they need with the goal to eliminate waitlists and women never have to be turned away. The DV Collective are now working with many of Australia's largest organisations to support these members through fundraising, donation of product and services and volunteering. We can all make an impact. #dvcollective #realimpact #fundraiseforus

Criminal justice reform happens in different ways. Nonprofits might: > Invest in reintegration: Help formerly incarcerated individuals rebuild their lives by supporting programs that provide job training, mental health services, and housing assistance. > Fight for systemic change: Advocate for policies that address the root causes of crime, reduce racial disparities, and create a more equitable justice system. > Empower communities: Support organizations working to prevent crime, provide resources to at-risk youth, and strengthen the social fabric of communities impacted by incarceration. By donating to these nonprofits, you’re not just giving money; you’re investing in a brighter future for individuals, families, and communities. 📖Don’t wait. From a Caseworker’s Perspective: Today, as we continue through the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, I want to share why this campaign is more than a moment—it's a mission. Every day, I see the strength it takes for women and children to rebuild their lives after facing violence. For some, reaching out is the first step toward safety and healing. At The Family Co. we’re not just witnesses to these stories; we’re partners in creating change. Through safety planning, crisis support, and community education, we work tirelessly to break cycles of violence and empower families to thrive. Our Walk for Respectful Relationships happening this Friday 29th November at Don Lucas Reserve is a step toward building awareness, but the work doesn't stop there. We need your support to amplify this message and extend our services to reach more families. Here's how you can make an impact: Learn: Understand the signs of abuse and how to support someone safely. Speak Up: Start conversations about respect and equality in your community. Act: Join us in advocating for a future free of violence by volunteering, donating, or spreading awareness. If you or someone you know needs help, don’t wait. Reach out to: 📞 The Family Co. (02) 9528 2933 📞 1800 RESPECT (1800 737 732) – 24/7 National Helpline 📞 Lifeline – 13 11 14 📞 Safe Steps – 1800 015 188 Every action counts. Together, we can build a community where everyone feels safe, respected, and supported. #16DaysOfActivism #EndViolence #CaseworkersInAction #RespectfulRelationships

What if the nonprofit you trust most could be silenced overnight—no trial, no evidence, just a label? House Bill 9495 is a direct threat to the lifeblood of social change. It gives sweeping power to label nonprofits as “terrorist-supporting organizations,” stripping them of their tax-exempt status and credibility. For movements fighting for justice, equity, and accountability, this is more than a bill—it’s a weapon. As #GivingTuesday approaches, this isn’t just about donating—it’s about defending the organizations that amplify marginalized voices and protect vulnerable communities. In my latest reflection, I explore the dangerous implications of this legislation and why we must stand together to protect the nonprofits that shape our collective future. ✨ Let’s turn this moment into action—share your thoughts below. How can we defend the heart of advocacy? 📖 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eyJRuJbA . . . #philanthropy #advocacy #nonprofit #HouseBill9495 #HB9495

Today marks the beginning of the annual 16 days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence, a global campaign for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls. In support of this campaign I have teamed up with a number of colleagues at the City of Melbourne to raise $1600 in 16 days, for Safe Steps Family Violence Response Centre. Safe Steps provides 24/7 immediate expert intervention, support, advocacy and referral pathways to women and children throughout Victoria to ensure that those at highest risk receive an immediate family violence response to keep them from harm. Education is key in the primary prevention of gender-based violence. In addition to raising awareness via the Safe Steps fundraiser, we have also teamed up with The Men's Project at Jesuit Social Services to deliver a two part workshop series that: - unpacks their research into harmfull gender stereotypes - and builds confidence to speak up against harmful attitudes and behaviours. City of Melbourne staff reach out if you're interested in attending! Not all men commit gender-based violence, but ALL men can (and need to) speak up on this isssue.

Sister José Women’s Center, a Tucson-based nonprofit, is committed to the mission of aiding and uplifting women experiencing homelessness. At their low-barrier day center, they offer unaccompanied women stability and safety, providing them with a refuge to heal from the harsh realities of life in the United States. There are women centers and women's shelters but there are not enough beds. These elderly women are vulnerable, most of them have chronic illness or battling with dementia. They are experiencing homelessness because they cannot afford housing in Tucson anymore. Sweeping away homeless encampments is not the solution. Tucson, how can we help? This is not a rhetorical question: If we all get together, I am sure we can find a solution. https://lnkd.in/d7ttvhkB
