Attention Short-Term Rental Providers: Avoiding Auto-Pilot Mode In business, it’s easy to fall into auto-pilot mode, thinking you're making progress when you're really just maintaining the status quo. Managing and making progress are not the same thing. Improvement should be a constant focus. If you think your STR business has reached its peak, think again. There’s always room for growth. Losing sight of continuous improvement can lead to stagnation and a loss of passion, which becomes evident in your brand and culture. When I started my STR business in 2000, reviews weren't as prominent as they are today. Although reviews are now a major currency, they are often used inappropriately. Instead of focusing solely on getting reviews, we asked guests, "How can we improve?" This approach helped us become a leader in our sector. Reviews can be transactional. Focus on asking the right questions to show your commitment to enhancing the guest experience rather than just generating revenue. When guests see you’re genuinely interested in their feedback, they’ll be more likely to book again, refer others, and yes, leave a review—but never start with asking for one. Next time you engage with a guest, try this: “We are an improvement-focused company. How can we better serve you?” This approach not only helps identify areas for growth but also sets you apart from the competition. PSA: Economybookings.com is a SCAM For a glaring example of how NOT to do business, check this. I booked a rental car. Two days later my client changed the install date of the project. I tried to rebook the car. I could not cancel and receive a refund, they only refund to an "online wallet" on their website. On the new dates, they had no car available. So, I had to book a car through another company. Economy Bookings would not refund my money. They claimed there were "costs" incurred in holding my money in the wallet, and said if they paid it out, it would be less 60EURO!!! and the remainder would take 2 weeks to be paid. I tried to get them to see that it was outside of my control being as they didn't have a car available. May as well have been yelling in a dustbin. So, I asked them to refund minus their exorbitant 60 euro fee, which they still did not do! Fast forward a few months. and there's a new need for a rental. Not because I like the company or service (lack of), I tried to use the "wallet" money again. I booked for a car in mid September. And to be fair, I could use the wallet to do so, but.... They processed the booking for the very next day, not my chosen dates. Now, neither they nor the local rental company want to know about the car I need in September, claiming I'm a no-show in June. How can a company be such a complete cluster to deal with? Where did honesty and integrity go? DO NOT USE THESE CROOKS.
