Yesterday's Conference was our biggest yet, with 241 delegates attending from across New Zealand and Australasia, to discuss crucial points relating to the future success and sustainability of the industry here in New Zealand. Thank you to all members and contributing speakers who joined us for this important day. In positive news, we celebrated our most successful season ever, with a well managed mix of small, medium and large ships visiting ports all around the nation, including the successful inaugural cruise season in Whangarei. Customer sentiment for New Zealand and Australasia remains high, with all New Zealand ports receiving great feedback and scores from visitors. However, on the back of this record season, our industry is now facing headwinds for the coming years, due to the loss of winter cruising and a reduction in scheduled port calls for the next two years, thanks to a combined effect of increased and proposed further increases in fees, levies and pricing impacting New Zealand's competitiveness as a destination. While not all discussion was easy, we are pleased to report that there was positive progress and consensus around the need to find a sustainable path forward. Roger Gray, Chief Executive Officer Port of Auckland, said the Port had heard the industry’s message around fees, and will be evaluating future pricing with a view to better supporting the industry needs. We look forward to working collaboratively with all involved to ensure we as a nation continue to benefit from welcoming cruise.
