The 11th Annual DePaul Cyber Risk Conference is in full swing! We were honored to hear from distinguished speaker Sunil Cutinho who shared insights into navigating the rapidly evolving landscape of technology. Over the past seven years, advancements in technology—most recently in artificial intelligence—have transformed the way we approach innovation and risk. Reflecting on tools like ChatGPT, Cutinho noted the two prevailing reactions: fear and embrace. He remarked, “Biases focus on limiting change to stop the risk of the unknown.” While many see resistance as a safeguard, Cutinho encourages us to adopt a different perspective: to face the future by learning and adapting. Drawing from his experience in a resilient organization, he shared a key takeaway: “The goal is to always learn.” As we consider the challenges and opportunities presented by emerging technologies, his message serves as a powerful reminder to approach change with curiosity and courage. #DePaul #CyberRisk #AI #RiskManagement #DePaulFinance #Hacking

When we talk about cybersecurity and AI, the core fear often boils down to one unsettling thought: Losing control. Whether it’s hackers breaching your data or AI outsmarting us, there’s a visceral, surface-level worry we all grapple with - “What if?” ❓ What if your most sensitive information falls into the wrong hands? ❓ What if the systems we’ve built to help us become unpredictable? These questions highlight the uneasy balance between innovation and risk. But this fear isn’t just a challenge - it’s a call to action. We must address these anxieties with clear guardrails, robust defenses, and ethical AI frameworks. Only then can we ensure that technological progress empowers us rather than creating more uncertainty. Let’s not shy away from these fears but confront them head-on. How are you preparing to manage control in an increasingly unpredictable digital world? 💡 #Cybersecurity #AI #DataProtection #EthicalAI #RiskManagement

Cybersecurity, like chess♟️ is a game of skill, strategy, and foresight. It requires careful planning, quick thinking, and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances in the digital domain. Just as in chess, success hinges on defenders outsmarting their opponents, safeguarding their digital kingdom. 💡AI's Impact is Shaking Up the Business World. The rapid rise of AI, fuelled by GenAI, has reshaped industries. By automating tasks like patching vulnerabilities, it frees up time for tackling complex challenges. 💡AI's Blind Spots in Cybersecurity AI's reliance on data quality poses risks. Trained on incomplete datasets, it can falter in threat detection. Human involvement remains vital for nuanced problem-solving and effective communication. 💡The Essence of Zero Trust Zero Trust is the bedrock of modern cybersecurity. Though challenging to implement, it demands continual evolution and cultural shifts, ensuring security. #CyberSecuity #CybersecurityStrategy #ChessGameOfSecurity #DigitalDefense #AIRevolution #GenAI #BusinessTransformation #AIImpact #CybersecurityBlindSpots #DataQuality #ZeroTrust #CybersecurityEvolution

🧠 The Security Mindset: Learning from World War Z 🧠 I had the opportunity to speak at PAES 2024 on topic of "Tackling security-related challenges in AI". My conclusion for the talk was an example from the movie World War Z, where Israel’s proactive defense strategy serves as a compelling analogy for cybersecurity, especially as the world is adapting to AI . In the film, Israel adopts the “Tenth Man” rule: if nine out of ten analysts agree on a threat, the tenth must argue the opposite. This ensures that even the most unlikely scenarios are considered and prepared for. The result? Early detection, decisive action, and robust defenses. This philosophy is a powerful lesson for our own security strategies in this new world of AI: 1. Proactivity: Don’t wait for threats to materialize. Act early. 2. Skepticism: Question consensus and explore all possibilities. 3. Preparedness: Invest in comprehensive, well-rounded defenses. 4. Unity: Foster a collective responsibility and collaboration. As we navigate the complexities of AI and cybersecurity, adopting a security mindset akin to the “Tenth Man” can make all the difference. Let’s be proactive, skeptical, prepared, and united in our efforts to secure our digital future. #Cybersecurity #AI #SecurityMindset #ProactiveDefense #WorldWarZ #PAES2024

📚 Sneak Peek: The "Exploitation Zone" 📚 In my upcoming book "FAIK," I introduce a crucial concept: the Exploitation Zone. What is it? It's the growing gap between rapid technological advancement and our ability to adapt. Here's the concept: 👉 Tech evolves exponentially. 👉 Human adaptability progresses linearly. 👉 That widening gap? That's where cybercriminals thrive. In the Exploitation Zone: 📈 AI-driven deceptions become more sophisticated 📉 Our natural defenses lag behind 💣 Bad actors find new ways to manipulate and deceive Understanding this concept is key to protecting ourselves in any rapidly evolving tech environment - but GenAI kicks it up a notch. It's not just about keeping up with tech—it's about recognizing our vulnerabilities and building new cognitive defenses. Want to learn more? Pre-order "FAIK" now.
