Research has revealed many people have a narrow image of the construction industry as solely confined to “on-site” work. But Giselle Gallagher who previously studied psychology, found work as a Quality Assurance Technician in off-site manufacturing and has never looked back. Dear fellow Engineers, as you resume back to work today, don't forget to prioritize your safety and the safety of your team/subordinates. Put on P.P.E, and follow all safety procedures involved in executing any site project. In the Engineering of yesterday, it was safety first; in the Engineering of today, it is safety first; in the Engineering of tomorrow, it will be safety first. Safety patriotism is one of the main differences between professional engineers and quack engineers. Always remember that "SAFETY FIRST". Think of your safety Think of your team/subordinates safety Think of your environmental safety and Think of your client's safety. ©️Engr Oye Of 2OA Innovation #2OAInnovation #ThinkSafety #PrioritizeSafety #SafetyFirst.

As engineers, we’re often neck-deep in the technical side of things, making sure every detail is just right. But I’ve come to realize how easy it is to focus on the project details and forget something just as critical: safety. Honestly, safety isn’t just a checklist or something for one person to handle. It’s something we all need to care about. We’re each responsible for making sure everyone goes home safe and sound at the end of the day. 💡Safety starts with every person on site, not just a dedicated safety officer. The little things—wearing the right gear, noticing potential hazards, speaking up if something doesn’t feel right—can make all the difference. Building a strong culture of safety isn’t about calling people out; it’s about looking out for one another. 🦺 No matter our role, we’re all part of a bigger team effort to keep our sites safe. It’s something I’m trying to make second nature and encourage in others too. Let’s make safety a part of everything we do, not just a box to check off. If we all commit to this mindset, imagine how much safer—and ultimately more successful—our projects could be. #SafetyOnSite #EngineeringTogether #ConstructionCulture #StaySafe

QUALITY FIRST Safety just has a better PR Rep. see why below… What do I think Qulity Control is? Always learning. Learning new information. New techniques. New technologies. New atmospheres. New locations. New tools. New soft skills. New people. Admit shortcomings and give grace to others for theirs. Always be prepared to switch hats from teacher to student in any situation and possibly multiple times in the same situation. Your reputation is all you have, and it precedes you. So why, “Quality First”? Check out this photo. When you see it, do you think, “Hmmm, I wonder if they held toolbox meetings or stand downs when someone died?” OR is your first thought, “Dang, after thousands of years of construction, war, pillaging, and scavenging, this thing is still here? That’s craftsmanship!” Quality plans for safety. Safety doesn’t plan for quality. Can you even have a good safety program without applying QC to the program? Run your safety program with high standards y’all!

Site manager: "Hey Bob, how did that toolbox talk on exposure to dust go?" Bob: "Went okay boss." Site manager: "Really?" Bob: "Yeah! I did exactly what you told me... I read it out word for word." Site manager: "So how come I see nobody wearing a dust mask or using dust extraction?" Bob: (shrugs his shoulders) "I couldn't tell you boss…but they all signed the attendance register." Site manager: ---- To be cont'd.

It takes a long time to get it right but only a second to fail… Providing adequate and sufficient durations within a working schedule to execute complex engineering operations is vital. The consequences of ignoring it are extremely perilous. Think twice when being pushed to remove allowances of time associated with key assurance documentation, health and safety reviews and quality checking periods. It may lead to short term gains but you are rolling the dice; because when it goes wrong it’s catastrophic. #safety #construction #civilengineering #formwork #temporayworks #quality #accident

Mindful Monday ☕ 💭 The Critical Role of Safety and Compliance in Field Operations In industrial and construction fieldwork, ensuring worker safety and regulatory compliance is non-negotiable. Safety checklists, manuals, and compliance documentation are the unsung heroes of daily operations, especially in hazardous environments or time-sensitive tasks. These tools enable field teams to: ✅ Verify safety protocols before starting a job. ✅ Review procedures for complex or high-risk tasks. ✅ Confirm regulatory compliance to avoid costly mistakes. Just like reliable tools and technology, these resources ensure that field workers stay productive and safe—no matter the circumstances. ❔ What safety or compliance practices have made the biggest impact in your fieldwork? Share your thoughts! #FieldWork #OfflineAccess #IndustrialTech #CraneAndRigging #Millwright #MachineryMoving #DoitWright #Safety

My first project as a Quality Control Manager I was set down onsite with a pod just like the one below, a small generator, 1 file cabinet, 1 folding table, 1 printer and a pissed off Superintendent who had wanted his buddy to be his QC not a green female QC. I had a degree in Mechanical Engineering but no freakin clue how to be a decent let alone successful QC Manager. I had been sent through the Corps of Engineers QCM one-day class and told to go get it. Looking back on that project there honestly wasn't much I didn't do wrong the first time. I had a young son depending on me as the sole source of income at the time and so failure was NOT an option. I had quit better jobs than that one but at that moment in life that was NOT an option either. There were so many expensive lessons learned. That is one of my biggest motivators for what I do today. I want to help those fresh new QCs set down in the dirt with a POD and no idea what to do in it. I also want to help those companies who do not know how expensive setting a green QC on a job site will be for them. As the great Tony Beets says "Lessons cost money, good ones cost lots". I want you to learn from all of my mistakes and the many mistakes I have helped other contractors recover from in the past. I am not saying take my training and you will never make a mistake ha ha........ I am saying learn from someone with decades in the dirt and a pair of dirty boots at her door and then go make your own mistakes! And after you do come back and tell me about them so future QCs can learn from you too. That is the heartbeat of the Quality Control Collective.
