According to the latest screen reader survey by WebAIM (run in December 2023 and January 2024) only 34.6% of screen reader users think that web content has become more accessible. That's down from 39% in the previous survey. Surprised? What is going wrong? Thoughts please. #uxdesign #accessibility #contentmanagement #userneeds #websitedevelopment #designforgood #designforhumans

In-Page Links for Content Navigation🧭 In-page links, often embedded in the table of contents, help users navigate to specific content sections on the same page. While research showed increased user familiarity with the design pattern, carefully consider content structures before implementation. #uxdesign #content design #uiuxdesign Read article https://lnkd.in/dhHeNKGZ

The simplest accessibility fix that any site editor can achieve is making website hyperlinks descriptive. This small change will have a great impact on your site visitors that use a screen reader. By simply avoiding writing things like ‘click here’ or 'read more', you'll give your users context as to where they will be directed on your platform. Pray for your competitors. After you hire me, they’ll need it. (Currently planning what’s next. Prev. Co-founder @ Case Study Buddy (acquired), copywriter/consultant @ Business Casual.)
HELP! I'm teaching a class at the Alberta University of Art and Design next week, and I need a *struggling* site to use as an example for the students to fix up. Here's what we're doing: 1. I walk through an introduction to conversion copywriting 2. In a series of exercises, we work to identify potential issues and opportunities, from mining reviews to improving headlines, body copy, overall UX. The ideal 'bad' site... 1. Is a product or service with potential to benefit multiple diverse audiences. My previous example was a mobile tire swapping company, and we could identify segments with different needs/reasons to buy (e.g. parents with small kids, elderly folks, downtown dwellers, etc.) 2. Has a site with significant issues/opportunities for improvement vs. a site that has already been heavily reworked and optimized. I'd LOVE your suggestions for a site we could focus on!

Are People Really Reading Your Content? 🤔 Studies show people scan web pages in an F-shaped pattern —especially when they face a wall of text with little formatting. Why? They want to find answers fast. Most users don’t have the time or interest to read every word. As someone with dyslexia, I avoid heavy blocks of text. Clear, visual formatting with bullet points and headings makes reading enjoyable. Monday Top Tip: Make your content scannable for all, including neurodiverse readers! Want more on this? Color is a powerful tool for creating a visual hierarchy on your website. This involves using colors strategically to guide visitors through the content. Bold and contrasting colors can be employed to highlight crucial elements such as calls-to-action (CTAs), encouraging users to take specific actions. Muted colors, on the other hand, can be utilized for background elements, allowing essential information to stand out.
