Yet, I couldn’t help but feel that some speakers strayed a bit from their announced topics, which made the experience feel a little less focused. 🤔 Reflections on Web Summit 2024 Usually, large events energize me with dozens of ideas and 150-200 new contacts in just three days. But this year's Web Summit felt different. Only one team among my network reported successful outcomes. Others, whether with dedicated stands or in ALPHA-BETA programs, called it the least productive Web Summit in years for lead generation, partnerships, and investor connections. The networking with the Ukrainian community was excellent, but the daytime pavilion activity was puzzling - people wandered without meaningful engagement. Interestingly, many visitors were first-timers who came "just to see what it's about." Overall business presence seemed reduced - wider walkways and spaced-out stands suggested unsold exhibition space. While side events and reunions with old contacts made up for it, we're unlikely to return in this format. Many smaller, more effective events exist. Has Web Summit lost its edge? 🌍 The Web Summit Quota Game vs. Real Connections 🌍 A few days ago, my husband mentioned something funny (but very real!) about Web Summit: apparently, some people are 𝘳𝘦𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘥 to fill their calendars with back-to-back meetings just to meet quotas their bosses set. Their full calendars are proof they’re “networking” and “building connections” at the event. Now, I get it—everyone has different goals. But that’s def not my approach. I’m going to Web Summit with one purpose: to create genuine connections with inspiring people who are passionate about making a difference. I want to learn, collaborate, and bring back insights to The Interns Hub and our mission. For me, every meeting is meaningful, and every connection is an opportunity to grow.
