Today, I attended the funeral of one of my employees who passed away. It was a heartbreaking reminder that, as leaders, our responsibilities go far beyond driving numbers, achieving goals, and managing behaviors. We are entrusted with so much more. We are part of their journey to provide for their families. We influence their mental health, celebrate their victories, and support them during life’s hardest moments. Our roles extend to being mentors, advocates, and sometimes a safe space for those we lead. This experience has reinforced my belief that leadership is not just about the professional—it’s about the personal too. It’s about creating an environment where people feel valued not just for what they do, but for who they are. To my fellow leaders: let’s never lose sight of the fact that we are in the business of people. Take the time to know your team. Check in. Be present. Because at the end of the day, it’s the human connections we build that truly make a difference. #Leadership #PeopleMatter #Culture #Archtelecom #RafealCalderon #NewEngland #Northeast
It's saddening to know that there aren't many advocates within the leadership world who understand this... I am glad you've always been one of the few to balance both business and personal connections. My condolences to you and their family. 😓 🙏
This is what separates a Leader from a Manager. Well said Demario, and of course, my condolences 🙏
Thank you for sharing this heartfelt reflection. I’m so sorry for your loss. Thinking about you and the family during this difficult time. 🙏🏻

1moIn my career I had 4 deaths of employees. That’s when people see more than your leadership skills but your human side. Hardest part of the job. Right up there with managing a site for 3 months after being told they would be closing your site! #leadership #empathy #peopleskills
