Happy First Day of Class! 💛 It's been so much fun catching up with the brotherhood and hearing about each other's exciting summer experiences. Sofia Espinosa, for example, spent the summer interning in Merchandise Planning at Bloomingdale's where she gained valuable insights into the fashion industry! Here's what she has to say about the experience: What was the most rewarding part of your experience? "The most rewarding part of my experience has to be the sheer amount of learning I get to do every day. Each person I interact with on a day-to-day basis is so open to answering any questions I have relating to their career and the retail industry as a whole. I also get to use the knowledge I've learned in my business classes and apply that to an industry that really excites me." How did DSP aid in your internship journey? Is there a brother you are specifically grateful for because of their help? "DSP paved my entire internship journey. I absolutely would not have thought it possible to explore a role that wasn't investment banking or consulting without the inspiration and support from the brotherhood. Current and graduated brothers gave me loads of advice on who to talk to, where to look, and how to carry myself in a professional setting; I know for a fact I wouldn't have this opportunity if it weren't for the amazing people in DSP." How exciting Sofia! We are so proud of you. 💛

🌟 Maximizing My Internship Experience at Ross🌟 I’m thrilled to share how my internship at Ross is helping me develop valuable skills on the sales floor. One of my key responsibilities involves gathering clothes from the fitting rooms and returning them to their rightful places on the sales floor, as well as managing returned items from the registers. This task is more than just a routine; it’s a crucial part of enhancing my understanding of the store layout and inventory management. By organizing and restocking items, I'm becoming more familiar with where everything is located, which greatly improves my ability to assist customers effectively. Through this experience, I’m honing my skills in: •Store Layout Mastery:Getting to know where different products are situated helps me quickly direct customers to what they need. •Customer Service:Being on top of returned items and ensuring the sales floor is well-organized allows me to provide a better shopping experience. •Efficiency and Attention to Detail: Ensuring items are returned to their proper places helps maintain a neat and accessible store environment. I’m excited about the growth I’m experiencing and look forward to continuing to contribute to a great customer experience at Ross! #RetailExperience #InternshipJourney #CustomerService #ProfessionalDevelopment

We were very lucky to have Lynsey Abbott and Katy Norton from Buying and Beyond talk to us in class today. They gave us some great insight into the world of buying and here are 3 of my favourite messages from their talk. 1. During the interview stage, note down people's names! Incorporating people's names will make you more memorable. 2. During the internship, speak to as many people as possible. You never know what opportunities might open up if you put yourself out there. 3. During the job, if a particular product isn't selling it never hurts to call the store. People on the shop floor may be able to help you understand why something isn't selling and how it can be improved. Overall I learned a lot and cannot wait to start my journey in buying and merchandising!

I love that the new Nike CEO Elliott Hill joined the company as an intern and spent his entire career at the company. How many #Fortune1000 companies can say the same thing? At Datonics we take pride in our internship program and are proud of current team members who started as interns, including: Donna Fintzi (Grinnell College ) , Kaseem Jagat (Futures and Options ) , Rachelle Benedict (Columbia University ), Yana Grigoryeva. We are also proud of our low turnover rate in team members and that people have been with us for over 5/10/20 years- but that is the subject for another post. #intern #internship #recruitment #hr #humanresources
