There's a thing I've been thinking about a lot lately, and after reading the post over at https://lnkd.in/gXKxfpxH - I realized that others are thinking about it too. The third party security review has lost its ability to effectively measure risk. As an industry, we ask our vendors to answer a lot of security questions. Who among you hasn't had the responsibility of filling out one of these questionnaires, and taken liberties with the full accurateness of the answers? No matter how thorough you think you are with your questions, there's always some exception to the process that you aren't going to be aware of. As the number of companies coming into the market as grown, so has the campaign to build out a security program that allows them to sell into the enterprise quickly. We see startups beginning their SOC II journey within days of incorporating. All we have to go by is Q&A, and third party audits - which in themselves are starting to become less and less useful as a trust metric. Does third party risk analysis need a shakeup?
