🌟 A fantastic day at the Open Science Day 2024 and EOSC Tripartite Event in Slovenia! It was a privilege to present on two key topics that lie at the heart of Europe’s Open Science vision: 1️⃣ The role of the EU in the development of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) – emphasizing the transformative potential of EOSC as a federated infrastructure enabling researchers to store, share, and reuse data, fostering an open and collaborative research ecosystem. 2️⃣ The value of Open Research Europe (ORE) – showcasing this innovative open-access publishing platform that drives equity, transparency, and reproducibility in research, offering a not-for-profit model with no author fees. Both initiatives underline the EU’s commitment to making open science the modus operandi of European research policy. By aligning incentives, providing robust infrastructures, and ensuring accessibility to research outputs, we’re creating a more integrated and effective research ecosystem across Europe. Thank you to the organizers for hosting such a dynamic and inspiring event. Together, we continue to pave the way for a more open, collaborative, and impactful European Research Area. #OpenScience #EOSC #OpenAccess #ORE #Innovation #Collaboration #ERA

The launch of the EOSC EU Node took place during the EOSC Association Symposium 2024 Questions on my mind for the next phase are the following: 📣 How will Sweden position itself as National EOSC Node? 🎯 How will the link with Open Science Competence Centres look like (from the Skills4EOSC project)? ⏭️What EOSC Thematic Nodes will exist? 💫 How can Swedish Research Infrastructures, such as SciLifeLab, connect and contribute with its vast amount of resources, expertise and services? These and many other questions needs to be addressed in order to position Sweden and ensuring contributions, engagement and knowledge sharing. Interesting times indeed! #eoscsymposium2024 #openscience

Prototyping the EOSC Federation: A key workshop in Milan On November 18-19, 2024, I had the pleasure to attend the "Prototyping the EOSC Federation: Nodes and Linkages" workshop in Milan, organised by the ESFRI-EOSC Task Force. This event gathered key stakeholders to discuss the next steps in building the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) Federation. The central goal was to define how diverse research infrastructures—represented as Thematic Nodes—will integrate into the EOSC framework, helping to create a seamless, interoperable research ecosystem across Europe. Workshop focus: Shaping the EOSC Federation The EOSC Federation is entering a critical phase of development, with its operational features being tested through the EOSC EU Node. The workshop was designed to refine the requirements for potential Thematic Nodes, which will gather services of ESFRI research infrastructures. The discussions over the two days addressed how to ensure these Thematic Nodes are fully interoperable, scalable, and ready to support the EOSC’s mission of open science and data sharing. Representing OPERAS and the future European Diamond Capacity Hub I had the opportunity to participate in the second day’s 2nd Roundtable Discussion: Interfacing among EOSC Nodes, where I represented OPERAS, the European infrastructure for open scholarly communication in the social sciences and humanities. During my intervention, I presented OPERAS’ objectives for joining the EOSC Federation, highlighting our commitment to supporting open access and collaboration across Europe. A key focus of my intervention was the European Diamond Capacity Hub (EDCH), which will be operational in January 2025. The EDCH aims to strengthen diamond open access publishing, offering resources and services to support this model across the continent. I explained how OPERAS, through the EDCH, plans to become a Node in the EOSC, contributing to its vision of an open, federated infrastructure that benefits researchers across all disciplines. A step toward EOSC’s Future This workshop was a pivotal moment in shaping the EOSC Federation. By fostering discussions on how to integrate Thematic Nodes effectively, the event laid the groundwork for future collaborations and innovations in open science. OPERAS, with its European Diamond Capacity Hub, is excited to be part of this journey, contributing to the creation of a truly open and collaborative research environment in Europe. #EOSC #OpenScience #ResearchInfrastructures #ESFRI #OPERAS #DiamondOpenAccess #EOSCFederation #OpenScholarlyCommunication #EDCH (for the European Diamond Capacity Hub) #CollaborativeResearch #FutureOfResearch

Reflections on the EOSC Symposium 2024 in Berlin: A convergence of minds and momentum: The EOSC Symposium 2024 in Berlin was an absolute highlight of the year! 🌟 With 460 participants on-site and almost the double online, we had the amazing opportunity to exchange ideas, collaborate, and dive deep into the future of open science. The conversations around the EOSC Federation and the critical role of the EOSC EU node were particularly exciting, showing just how much momentum we're gaining in building a truly connected research infrastructure across Europe. For me, it was such a pleasure to see so many familiar faces 😊—reconnecting with colleagues and friends and meeting new ones. The sense of community within the EOSC space is growing stronger each year. We discussed at length the sustainability of our projects, which is now more vital than ever. Ensuring EOSC's long-term viability is key, and I could feel the commitment and passion from everyone involved to make it a reality. 🚀 The collaboration between Member States, institutions, and individuals is what truly powers this initiative. Every session was buzzing with energy ⚡, and the corridor chats were filled with brilliant ideas, innovative solutions, and shared visions of the future. I’m leaving Berlin feeling more inspired than ever by the progress we’ve made and the exciting possibilities ahead. 💡 This symposium was more than just a meeting—it was a true testament to the dedication of the entire EOSC community. Looking forward to continuing these important conversations and building a sustainable, inclusive, and impactful future for EOSC! 🌱💪 #EOSCSymposium2024 #OpenScience #EOSCFederation #EOSCCommunity #Sustainability #Innovation #ResearchInfrastructure
