Something has been eating at me for the last few weeks, and I suspect others are feeling it, too. I've felt this underlying unease and sadness about the state of freelance content writing. I've been incredibly lucky to have had comparatively few negative client experiences—until nine months ago. Since then, I've had several negative client experiences that came out of nowhere. - I chased late payments (with no apology once the invoice was paid). - I was told I would receive work, but the work never arrived. - In one exceptional case, I discovered I'd been set up to fail for reasons still unknown to me. All I know is that I really don't understand office politics—but I'll share more on that later. - I was ignored after submitting work. - Potential clients ghosted me after they approached me. It's really sad that it's come to this. Paying someone on time or sending them a quick email update is the bare minimum.
