How does Australia “lose control” of its borders? We are 3000 km from anywhere in any direction (apart from png, which is a natural land barrier). what are we? Mexico? How TF does a continent in the middle of no-where, completely surrounded by ocean, “lose control of its borders”? FFS, no one can get here except by plane or powered boat. This is not 1776, where any old ship captain can hoist the mainsail from any port & arrive here in 6 months. We have gps, over the horizon radar, coast watch, surveillance ships & aircraft, satellites & land based surveillance. Or is our border security staffed by “Hogans heroes”? Or is it the fact that our government is run by “keystone cops”? Edit: remember the old adage of politics? “Nothing happens in government unless a politician wants it to”
