How can Digital Sequence Information (#DSI) help achieve the Global Biodiversity Framework? 🌍 A new report by the DSI Scientific Network & South African National Biodiversity Institute explores its role in 21 of the 23 #GBF targets. The report, "Meeting the Goals of the Global Biodiversity Framework – What Role for Digital Sequence Information (DSI)?", dives into the vital role of DNA sequence data in driving #biodiversity #conservation. What’s inside: - What is DSI & why is it crucial for conservation? - How DSI aligns with the GBF goals. - Real-world examples of the role of DSI in achieving the GBF targets. Without DSI, the achievement of the GBF targets will not be fully effective and in some cases not possible. 🚨New study Researchers at UNEP-WCMC have carried out the first high-level analysis of countries’ policy pledges for nature and subsequent reporting of actions taken under the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and its Aichi biodiversity targets. They discovered major reporting shortfalls: nearly half of countries' commitments for nature in 2011-2020 could not be linked to evidence of actions taken. Today it's UN Biodiversity #BiodiversityDay and this year's theme is 'Be part of the Plan' - a call to action for all stakeholders to halt and reverse the loss of biodiversity by supporting the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal #GlobalBiodiversityFramework. On 19 December 2023, the one-year anniversary of the adoption of the Global Biodiversity Framework, the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity launched “The Biodiversity Plan” campaign aiming to communicate and promote the 4 Goals and the 23 Targets of the Framework to the world. Communicating the Biodiversity Plan is crucial to enabling a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach that will take the world from agreement to action. Governments are accountable for the implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework, but everyone has a role to play.
