Co-CEO at Responsible Investment Association Australasia

Winding down for xmas? Not likely. So much happened in the Aotearoa RIAAverse last week, I thought it was worth a quick recap in case you missed some. In no particular order: 📠2 days in Wellington, including the final Aotearoa Collaborative Working Group Meeting for the year. In less than 18 months this group has grown from an idea to a community of 30+ member organisations, 3 workstreams, and a huge plan to grow capability in NZ. It's driven by a big group of volunteers but special shout out to co-chairs Rachel Tinkler and Catherine Bodnar for their commitment. And to Jorge Waayman for the great lunch recommendation! 📠Had a sit down with Marcus McMillan, Diana Gordon, PhD MInstD, Russell Moala-Mafi and Daniel Haskell from the Financial Markets Authority - New Zealand. Great discussions on how we can ensure our guidance aligns, reduce greenwash and generally misleading conduct amongst managers and advisers. 📠 Met with incoming External Reporting Board CEO Wendy Venter and Amelia Sharman, toasted outgoing CEO and longtime RIAA ally April Mackenzie. Also had a great sitdown with Alistair Mason from the Social Investment Agency, identifying ways we can support their mahi. 📠RIAA's NZ Benchmark launched, finding more growth and strong performance of high quality sustainable funds. Fund managers expecting higher long term returns and avoiding risk were the key growth drivers, greenwash as a key concern. We got some great media coverage thanks to RNZ, NBR - National Business Review, Tarawera Publishing Ltd and BusinessDesk NZ (on the way). 📠 Met with Jay Crangle and Antonia Burbidge from the Sustainable Business Council NZ. We are 2 groups with very aligned Kaupapa and keen to develop ways to support each others work. Also finally met Mike Burrell in person. 📠The Impact Investing Network held its annual celebration of the amazing work in the impact ecosystem. Prior to the event the board met to discuss discuss plans and key initiatives for 2025, including key components of the RIAA merger. 📠Aotearoa New Zealand Stewardship Code governance committee had our final meeting of the year, before signatories met to toast what has been a year of progress with the first round or reports starting to be published. Special thanks to David Lewis who chairs that group and to Shayne Walker, Katie Beith, Greer Fredricson and of course, Jackson Rowland for making that such a great group to be part of. 📠 Special mentions to all the other Responsible Investment Association Australasia (RIAA) members and stakeholders I caught up with somewhere over the crazy week. Craig Weise, Sydney Straver, Merrin Laurenson, Eva Leong, Mitch McNae, Sue Walker, Jessica Friend, Alice Jones, Nirav S., Halie Hartigan CFA, Nigel Gormly. He tanagata. 🎄Not work related, but my 7 year old daughter loves xmas trees and I agreed to send her some pics from the road. Have included a couple of the best to spread some xmas cheer #16sleeps
