The World Health Organization released a report in April of this year that introduced the term “infectious respiratory particles” (IRPs) to replace the outdated “droplet vs. aerosol” distinction. Since the pandemic, there has been a technology shift with regard to IRPs and the spread thereof. The World Health Organization has released new guidelines on the transmission of airborne germs, including COVID-19. The new outline has resulted in two new definitions, "transmission through air" and "direct disposition." "Airborne transmission" refers to infectious germs being expelled through a cough, sneeze, or breathing, while "direct disposition" refers to respiratory particles landing on a person's mouth, nose, or eyes. The terms "contact transmission" and "direct contact transmission" remain the same.
