The Dayton Metro Library honors the life and legacy of poet, educator, and activist, Nikki Giovanni. Ms. Giovanni died December 9, 2024. She was 81 years old. Born in Kentucky and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, Ms. Giovanni received numerous awards for her work including the 2022 Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize, the inaugural Rosa L. Parks Woman of Courage Award, and the American Book Award. She was a seven-time recipient of the NAACP Image Award.
