Long-term web design partnerships with B2B SaaS companies | Current all-time average: 5.6 years

This is an issue everywhere if the positioning and lead quality are off. "Social media manager" is a commodity, so the prices are commoditised. And no, it's not a dig at them. "Web development" is a commodity, too. I learned it the hard way. You can get a website for free, for a tenner, for hundred quid. But there's a market where you *need* to get it for low or mid-five digits. "Web development/design" is a useless term because it describes everything from Wix, through freelancers, all the way to the top 0.01% of companies in the industry. Can you succeed as a "social media manager" or a "web developer" and get those "commoditised" prospects to pay more? Yeah. But that's a game of education, not selling your services. And it's a longer, harder, and imo much less exciting game. Niche down. Specialise. Escape commoditised services and you stop talking about prices like that. There's a big enough market to do that. And specialisation is always better than an all-in-one approach. We need to see more of that. It's scary, especially for freelancers/solopreneurs, but you gotta do it at some point. It was scary for us, too - and NerdCow is still too many things for too many people, after several iterations. Working hard to tweak it further. Making the first step is the most important thing. PS Sometimes, your positioning will be spot on and people will still get in touch with you for the wrong reasons. 🤷♀️ Such is life. But if you're tired of hearing the same thing, it might be a sign to change things up.
