This weekend was a momentous one for my son, Jaxson, and I as we headed to North Battleford for a AAA hockey camp. It wasn’t just any weekend—it was also Jaxson’s 16th birthday. 🎂 Playing hockey his entire life, Jaxson showcased his dedication and skill, earning an extended offer to return to the main camp this summer. From 8 teams down to 2, his performance was nothing short of successful. Reflecting on the weekend, I realized there’s a parallel between sports and life, especially in the professional realm. Like striving for a spot on a team, working in a corporate setting requires delivering and proving oneself continuously. However, success in such environments doesn’t always guarantee advancement—external factors always play a role. This is where entrepreneurship shifts the dynamic. As an entrepreneur, while still reliant on customers, you wield greater control over your outcomes and the direct execution of your vision. Watching Jaxson, I’m reminded that whether in sports, business, or life, the principle remains: to succeed, you must strive to be the best in whatever you pursue, for others or for yourself. As he steps into his future, ready to embrace whatever comes his way, I am proud to say, at 16, he is already twice the man I was at his age.
