Interesting article from Forbes around the gap in the tech talent market. SAP isn't a company that many people outside of business know much about, but the broad coverage of SAP and Oracle ERP systems have made them the go to choice. But...with more and more implementations, and older versions being retired and newer updates coming, are there enough people with the required skillsets to ensure these systems bring the greatest value to their clients? Currently, I am sourcing for an SAP Consultant with expertise in the GTS modules. The market is incredibly small for this, but with massive changes in regulations around customs and compliance topics, not only in Europe, but across the globe, as well as new ESG initiatives, the talent is needed. How will we bridge this talent gap...? I am really interested to hear dialogue about this as I can foresee it becoming a huge issue as it will likely inflate the market, and cause a lot of volatility and competition for talent. https://lnkd.in/ezdST8rT

SAP's strategies and deadlines are carrots and sticks (mostly sticks) to move their customers to subscription and cloud. The end-of-mainstream-maintenance deadlines are causing a huge spike in demand for SAP consultants that have expertise with both ECC and S/4HANA. #SAPConsultant new pricing model: "What's in your wallet?" My biggest concern for organizations undertaking migrations in the next 3.5 years is that they will get partway done and some bigger company with deeper pockets that's desperate will lure away top consultants from projects in progress with offers they can't refuse.

POV: After witnessing SAP in action one time back in 2003, a "consultant" decides to pivot careers and become an #SAPConsultant. Their rate? A cool $500/hr. 💼💸😳 Humor aside, as the #2027 deadline for #ECC support looms, there's a concerning trend: the rise of underqualified #consultants in the market. Many businesses hire these consultants, which can lead to inefficient solutions and potentially cost hundreds of thousands (even millions) of dollars in misdirected funds. So, what should you do to ensure you get the real deal? ⚖️ Do an Assessment: Start by conducting a thorough (and independent) #assessment of your current systems and processes. Knowing exactly what you need will help you find the right expertise. Maybe you literally JUST finished implementing ECC and can't afford to move to S/4HANA. That's fine, just be sure to know where you're at and your #SAPRoadmap 🛣️ 👥 Ask for #References: Don't just take their word for it. A credible consultant should have a solid track record and be able to provide references. Ask the references how they handled conflicts or internal politics. 📩 Reach Out to Experts (see list below): Connect with proven experts with a pulse on the #SAPcommunity. Shoot them a message and ask for their feedback. #SAPInsiders are a tight-knit group, so they likely know someone specializing in your industry. If I were up against this deadline, the first thing I'd do is message one of these #thoughtleaders 💭 💯 Be Real: You get what you pay for. Cheap consultants do not offer lower rates out of the kindness of their hearts. If it sounds too good to be true, it likely is!
