Are Journal Peer Reviewers really unbiased? A recent study in JAMA raises important questions about the integrity of the peer-review process in major medical journals. A significant number of the physician reviewers examined had received payments from pharmaceutical and medical device companies between 2020 and 2022, totaling over a billion dollars. This lack of transparency calls into question whether industry influence could bias the critical evaluations that shape medical literature and, ultimately, clinical practice.
