Polestar's answer to the new 100% tariffs on Chinese-built EVs? Essentially, "we don't know yet." The Sino-Swedish brand's CEO told Kevin Williams this: "We need more clarity, and ultimately we [need to know] what are actually the rules." For now, it's very unclear what impact the tariffs will have on Polestar 2 prices, as well as batteries for its other new models. Here's what we know, such as it is: https://lnkd.in/eaqYZvrz

Everyone is talking about the major hike in tariff fees for Chinese-built electric vehicle and components, and wonder how it will effect Shandoka: Electric Motorcycles and others in the industry. Because we focus on retrofit solutions for existing combustion #motorcycles, most of our motorcycle parts have already been on the road in the USA for 20 to 50 years at this point (or more)!! For us, there are three benefits in the new tariffs: 1: Our competitors import a greater percentage of their vehicles - sometimes the whole thing - from China and will face the challenge of 100% cost markup for on white-labeled brands, and 4x greater tariff to import components. 2: Only our hub motors are dependent on Chinese production at the moment. Our high-powered retrofits use mid-mount motors from USA manufacturers; inverter units from USA production; Batteries from North Carolina and our neighboring States here in the Battery Belt. 3: Price negotiation for the things we do need from China, mainly the hub motors. You’ve been searching for a cool EV company to add to your portfolio — make it a #shandoka day!!

Polestar Begins US Production to Sidestep Chinese EV Tariffs Swedish electric vehicle maker Polestar has started production of its Polestar 3 SUV in the United States, marking a significant step in avoiding major tariffs on Chinese-made cars, according to Reuters. Polestar Shifts Production Strategy Polestar, majority-owned by China’s Geely, has been manufacturing its vehicles in China and exporting them to overseas markets. However, recent steep tariffs imposed by the US and Europe on Chinese-made cars have prompted many automakers, including Polestar, to accelerate plans to relocate parts of their production. The Polestar 3, now being manufactured at Volvo’s plant in South Carolina, will cater to customers in both the […] by Haye Kesteloo #ev #China #Europe #Make #Polestar #Renault #SEC #SouthCarolina #Tesla #UnitedStates #Volvo

The Biden administration is imposing new tariffs on Chinese made #electricvehicles and batteries, but there are currently no Chinese brands on sale in the US. In the near term, Volvo and Polestar (both majority owned by China's Geely through various corporate structural layers) are the only brands currently selling or planning to offer Chinese made EVs here. Tesla, Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Toyota Motor Corporation and Hyundai Motor Company (현대자동차) will be impacted by the battery tariffs https://lnkd.in/gCMGU9T2

Tariffs are now in place in Europe on electric cars produced in China. When it comes to Xpeng and NIO, two of the “smart electric vehicle” automakers that have been most proactive about selling their cars in Europe, they were not singled out for specific individual tariffs, so they are subject to the 20.8% tariff — since they cooperated with the investigation (rather than the 37.6% tariff for those automakers who didn’t cooperate with it). How are they responding?

通过储蓄者的眼睛...通过我的眼睛... Opinion/China Opinion… Many Chinese electric vehicle (EV) makers are shifting from exporting vehicles to the European Union to producing them within Europe to find ways around tariffs. While the rationale of this strategy is sound, its successful implementation can be challenging. To succeed, Chinese EV firms should learn from the management experiences of Haier and BYD in the United States. The EU is poised to raise tariffs on EVs imported from China after negotiators failed to reach a deal in Brussels on September 20. On top of an existing 10 per cent tariff, Brussels plans to impose additional duties ranging from 9 per cent to 35.3 per cent which would remain effective for five years. Although this increase is significantly lower than the 100 per cent tariffs imposed by the US and Canada, Chinese EVs are virtually non-existent in these two markets, except for a few models such as the Polestar 2, part of the Volvo stable, in which Zhejiang Geely has a controlling stake. Chinese-made EVs such as BYD, Xpeng and Nio have made significant inroads into the European market. For example, after the BYD Atto 3 received a five-star rating in 2022 from leading independent European safety institute Euro NCAP, it became Europe’s bestselling fully electric compact SUV in the first 11 months of 2023, with nearly 11,000 vehicles sold. #分析#利润#我们将改变#市场..

Chinese electric vehicle (#EV) manufacturers are increasingly partnering with European firms to avoid EU tariffs of up to 48% on Chinese EV imports. These partnerships help Chinese automakers like Chery, Leapmotor, and BYD establish local production in Europe, ensuring their vehicles are considered domestically. The EU, while imposing these tariffs, still needs affordable EVs to meet its 2035 phase-out of combustion-engine cars. Key collaborations include #Chery with Spain's Ebro-EV Motors, #Leapmotor with #Stellantis in Poland, and potential factories by #BYD in Hungary and Turkey. #ElectricVehicles #AutomotiveIndustry #SustainableMobility #GlobalTrade #EUAutomotive #EVManufacturing #FutureOfTransport #AutomotivePartnerships https://lnkd.in/dekxWsNN

🚗 EU's New EV Tariffs on CN cars: A Double-Edged Sword? 🤔 🇪🇺 The #EU's recent tariffs on Chinese EVs may backfire, warns Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares. While trying to protect European automakers, these duties could paradoxically accelerate plant closures in Europe. 🏭🔒 Why? Chinese manufacturers may opt to build facilities in Europe to avoid tariffs, significantly increasing overcapacity issues. 🇨🇳➡️🇪🇺 BYD, for instance, is already planning European production. This shift could intensify competition and pressure on local automakers. 📉 Is this protectionism helping or hurting European auto industry? As reported by Automotive News Europe 💬 #EVindustry #EUtariffs #automotivefuture
