Big news for Sisvel's #Cellular #IoT #Patent #Pool. Yesterday we concluded an agreement between the patent pool and Nordic Semiconductor. Nordic Semiconductor is a leading provider of low-power wireless communication solutions and the #LPWAN cellular options of LTE-M and NB-IoT are part of their product offering. This deal has been negotiated with a clear objective: to resolve #IP issues in the cellular IoT space efficiently and support the growth of the IoT market. With this deal the customers of Nordic Semiconductor get easy access to the patent portfolios of over 30 companies that joined development of the #NarrowbandIoT and #LTE-M standards and hold patents to these technologies. We are pretty proud that we have been able to navigate a complex web of requirements that exists in the dynamic IoT market and world of R&D. Bringing these two together in a negotiated deal brings predictability, transparency and efficiency to solving IP matters in the IoT field. We recently announced a groundbreaking #licensing deal with Nordic Semiconductor that enables Nordic’s customers to obtain end-product licences from more than 30 #patent owners holding LTE-M and NB-IoT SEPs offered via our #Cellular #IoT pool. In an article published on Sisvel Insights, Sisvel President Mattia Fogliacco explains how the agreement shows technology developers and implementers can work together to deliver market-based solutions to the complexities of IoT patent licensing. Such solutions, he writes, “will always be speedier and more efficient than regulatory ones: they are devised by people who work in and understand the market and have a direct stake in it being successful.” At Sisvel, we are committed to listening to all parts of the licensing ecosystem and acting constructively on the feedback we get. The #IoT industry and ecosystem is complex and ever changing, full of both risk and promise. That makes it extraordinary that over 30 tech companies have come together and agree on a system to reward the R&D that created the low power 4G connection that many IoT devices rely on. This is a victory of diversity that is happing in Sisvel's #Cellular IoT pool. Despite diverging interests, developers come from all corners of the industry are here: chipset manufacturers, network manufacturers, Telco's, OEM's, R&D centers, NPE's. And they come from all corners of the world: China, Europe, US, Korea, Japan. Just like how before these same companies put together their technology to build the LTE-M and NB-IoT standards, they're now chipping in their patents into a fair ecosystem for rewarding the inventors.
