New opportunity in an exciting business

Working in restaurants is a great way to make a living when you are trying to get your career off the ground. It’s also a great way to gain skills you’ll use daily once you finally get wherever you’re going. Before starting Scout, I spent years in the food industry, which was incredible. I worked as a barback, server, bartender, manager, and even security in spots ranging from clubs and pubs to fine dining. Each place taught me something new, and the skills I picked up working service jobs are many of the same ones I rely on as an agency owner, like how to: Talk to new people Cut people off Stay calm while hustling Navigate someone else's@#$%&! you don't deserve Not always have to people-please Work effectively on a team BUT, the number one trick I learned in restaurants that I use daily and takes less than three seconds to perform is… Ask people what their names are. That’s it. Then, get crazy and ask them about their lives and what they like and dislike. Just a little curiosity about someone else can totally change the way they feel and interact and has opened hundreds of doors for me over the years. Some people have learned about life working. What did you learn at the Job you had before your career took off?

𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐣𝐨𝐛: 🧐 Ever struggle to choose which job opportunity is the right pick for you? I often compare it to choosing which restaurant to go out for food! 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐙𝐨𝐧𝐞 = 𝐅𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐫 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐬: 👍  That familiar chain restaurant (like Nandos) represents a stable job in a known field (community pharmacy). It's a safe bet, you know what it is and how to do it. 𝐀 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐮𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞 = 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐎𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬: 🤔 But then there's that Michelin-starred place you’re interested in trying (like a switch to industry or GP). It's a different territory, but could be better Personally, I would rather go with 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐫 to me that I know I like! Just like picking a restaurant, your job search is about finding the perfect fit. Consider your cravings (career goals) and explore both familiar flavours (comfortable roles) and new cuisines (different opportunities)

It doesn't have to be this way?   The word is PROUD, not SILLY.    Or excited, happy, hopeful, forward thinking, constantly growing, kicking ass, delighted, ecstatic... This particular guy had left a 4 career in home health care to return to the industry.    "Why" I asked? "So many reasons!" he excitedly started listing off with big bright eyes! - More money - Easier path to management - Better schedule - Learning every day - Way more fun - Help so many people at once - New adventure every day But he seemed shy about the fact he left a "real job" to come back to working in a restaurant.   Are you kidding me? Hospitality is the REALEST job of all.   - People skills - Management skills - Finance skills - Negotiation skills - Budgeting skills - Training skills - Marketing skills - Community involvement skills - Entertaining skills - Creative skills - Menu knowledge skills - Multi tasking skills And he is right where he needs to be! For his personal and career growth. But also for me, and all the other guests he impacts daily. Excelling in his role, delighting guests, growing everyday and the future is beyond bright for him! He created a great experience for me on one of the hardest days I have had in a long time.   His upbeat and positive attitude was exactly what I needed.   He didn't know that...
