Got to go to the Colts game last weekend with all our kids. Great having all of them home! The game was not pretty, high scoring or exciting. There were no big pass plays, no long running plays, no pick sixes. But the Colts won. They did what they needed to do to win. We can say the same thing about success. It’s not the exciting things that lead to success. Whether it’s your career, your health, your eating or whatever. It’s the boring, fundamental things that you have to do day in and day out that lead to success. It’s the things you don’t want to do but you make yourself do them anyway. It’s doing those things consistently. It’s the things that don’t pay off right away. It’s not easy. It’s not exciting. Because it’s the mundane, boring things. It’s hard to continue doing those things day in and day out. But that consistency and persistence pay off in the long run. And that success is exciting! P.S. Well guess what...fearing getting hit by a pitch is VERY common. Whether we’re talking about coach-pitch, kid-pitch, or even higher levels of the game, this is something just about every hitter deals with at some point in their career. What matters most is how you overcome this fear and what I’ve found is that it ALL comes down to what you focus on. Being able to re-channel focus toward where it should be directed...at owning the pitcher and smashing the baseball, is everything. Lesson learned from my baseball and CRE careers.. Control what you can control. There a days where everything goes right.. like a 4-4 day with a couple extra base hits or connecting with multiple groups that have a requirement coming up. There are days where everything goes wrong.. 0-4 with a couple punch outs (had plenty of those) or another group gets the deal you were chasing. All you can control is showing up the next day and trusting your process. Whether that be getting to the cage early for tee work or making your certain number of cold calls.
