Being a board director has never been easy, and the results from our newest McKinsey Global Survey confirm that directors’ roles and responsibilities are increasingly complex. Most board members told us they’re dealing with this pressure by strengthening collaboration with their management teams. When we asked survey participants about specific board practices and operations, the results suggested three ways in which the effective collaborators differ from other boards: 1. They establish efficient and effective board processes. 2. They communicate more often and openly with CEOs. 3. They foster a strong board culture.
