The Fork in the Room Two ambitious friends, Linda and Sam, received invitations to an exclusive business gala hosted by a renowned entrepreneur, Mr. Tadeo. It was a rare chance to interact with movers and shakers in their industry. As the evening progressed, Linda and Sam had the opportunity to speak with Mr. Tadeo himself. He offered them a unique choice: “Tell me where you’d like to be placed tonight, and I’ll make it happen.” Linda, confident and strategic, said, “Put me in the room with the most influential people. Networking is the key to success, and I want to connect with the right people.” Sam, reflective and focused, responded, “Send me to the room where people are doing what I aspire to do. I want to learn from their journey.” Mr. Tadeo nodded and separated them accordingly. In her room, Linda mingled with CEOs, investors, and policymakers. The conversations were impressive, but she often struggled to connect deeply since her goals didn’t yet align with their immediate interests. She collected a stack of business cards but left with little clarity on her next steps. Meanwhile, Sam found himself among startup founders and project managers in his desired field. He listened, asked questions, and absorbed practical insights. By the end of the night, he had a mentor and a concrete strategy to implement his ideas. The next day, they reflected on their experiences. Linda realized she had aimed broadly, while Sam’s specific focus yielded tangible results. Lessons Learned: 1. Be specific about your goals – Clarity ensures your efforts are impactful. 2. Prioritize your needs over appearances – Networking is important, but relevance matters more than quantity. 3. Your decisions summarize your work – Knowing what you want leads to meaningful progress. In the end, Linda and Sam both grew, but Sam’s focused approach taught Linda that prioritizing direction over exposure could save time and create lasting success.

"Do you need me to cancel my meetings? If it is important, I absolutely will" I was absolutely blown away by the love, safety and belonging I felt from my good friend Nigel when I was going through a tough time and he offered to drop everything to have a chat with me. I consider myself #blessed to have quite a number of friends & peers I can turn to to share both the good, the bad and the ugly. As an #entrepreneur, I've experienced diverse challenges, with each hurdle revealing a valuable lesson. Reflecting on this journey, one aspect consistently emerges — relying on the strength of those around us to get through this crazy journey. One of the most powerful tools I developed was a peer group of like minded, awesome entrepreneurs. This #network became a source of succour, strength and friendship, proving safety and belonging. Like a harbour in stormy weather. Fellow founders (or anyone in a leadership role which is difficult for others to relate to) I would highly recommend building out a group of peers. 1️⃣ Forge Deep #Connections. A group of trusted individuals where you can be vulnerable; it's about cultivating meaningful relationships. These connections are the bedrock of support, advice, and collaborative ventures. 2️⃣ Leverage #CollectiveWisdom. The entrepreneurial path is filled with uncertainties. A peer group opens doors to a wealth of experiences. Learning from others' successes and failures is a shortcut to wisdom. 3️⃣ #Resilience Through Community. Entrepreneurship can be a lonely road. A peer group who understands the journey's highs and lows is worth it's weight in gold. Have you ever had a full circle moment? Last week, I had a photoshoot for a new website and venture I’m launching. This photo is a candid shot from a lighting test and not the edited, filtered, perfect, website-ready image that you’d probably expect me to share. What you also may not expect is that the building behind me in the photo (the one on the far left side that looks like it has vertical stripes) is where my office was located in 2008 when I got my first job at a speakers bureau. It was my introduction to the talent booking world and I had the opportunity to cut my teeth as an assistant to some of the most respected speaker agents in the business. Seeing the place where my career started in the background of where I stand today was a full circle moment. As an entrepreneur, the journey involves navigating a series of highs and lows, and within this dynamic landscape, full circle moments emerge as pivotal experiences. These instances, where past and present intersect, offer valuable lessons essential for growth. Full circle moments are not mere coincidences but powerful catalysts for reflection, connection, and inspiration. Embracing and appreciating these moments propels entrepreneurs forward, shaping their journey with purpose and leaving a lasting impact on themselves and others.
