💡 There are just six weeks to run until the start of Google’s drastic Play Store deletion, with thousands of apps expected to disappear. 🔋Google is set to purge thousands of low-quality and non-functional apps beginning August 31, 2024. This decision stems from an update to the company’s Spam and Minimum Functionality policy to enforce higher standards for user experience and functionality. 🟢 There are a few examples of app's chances of being removed included: ❌ Text-only apps, Single wallpaper apps, and any app that fails to deliver an engaging user experience. Additionally, apps that exhibit technical issues such as crashing, failing to install properly, or being unresponsive will also face removal. 🔴 This move is not the first of its kind for Google. In 2023, Google prevented 2.28 million policy-violating apps from being published to the Play Store and rejected nearly 200,000 app submissions. ⚠️ Google Play Protect now scans 200 billion Android apps daily, helping keep more than 3 billion users safe from malware. Hackers from Southeast Asia have turned Android's own best application security mechanism against itself, severing the link between kernel and application in order to perform any kind of tampering they wish. This method is being employed by new malware called "Snowblind," which targets at least one banking app in Southeast Asia. Snowblind works by abusing the ubiquitous and otherwise sterling Linux security feature "seccomp" — short for "secure computing" — in order to trap and modify system calls in transit, in effect isolating an application from the protocols and information it needs to detect malicious tampering.
