Someone (Apollo Karuga, RD.) once asked me: " If creating a specific #niche to post about or having all rounded ideas is the best marketing strategy to have on a social media account " I thought I'd answer that more comprehensively on a post. Once you see the pros and cons, you'll be in a position to chose for yourself whether niching out or generalizing content works for you. PROS: 1. Getting a defined audience. Take a note, if you want to have a good laugh, there are certain pages that pop up in your mind to go and check out. This is because they've niched out around comedy. Likewise, having a niche centered around your business, helps your viewers to find you easily and attract the kind of people who want what you're selling. 2. As an entrepreneur, it's just EASIER to niche out. On a very realistic scale - you're an entrepreneur, with many aspects of your business that need your attention. It will be impossible to touch on every idea that runs through your mind and share it online. You'll end up feeling burned out, overthinking, and being frustrated by your results. 3. Branding and building your authority. On a long term scale, lasting brands are build around a specific niche. You cannot build a brand on generalized content CONS: 1. You might miss out on a particular audience once you chose to focus on one niche. For a personal social media account, this might narrow down the brands and collaborations you'd want to partner with if your niches don't correlate. You'll have to adjust your types of content or they'll go for someone who's better aligned to their niche. 2. If you want to change the dynamics of your business/ niche, you could lose your following. Your followers are following you because of a certain uniqueness that you showcase. Once this changes, you might lose them. 3. When the niche you could get disrupted by change. It goes without saying, we live in a fast-changing world. If the solution you provide is no longer effective in today's world, you'll be at a loss. The key thing is to stay evolving and adaptable. It's how some of the biggest brands maintain credibility.
