Me: Hey Google, what is special about this month? Google: This is your last month at Google Indeed, today marks the start of my last month at Google. Leaving the Company is definitely not an easy decision, nevertheless, it is the right decision. Every decision focused on personal goals and life is right. I do not have Crystal ball, hence I cannot say what future brings, still I am certain about two things: 1. Working at Google has been an incredible experience. The past 6 years have been a whirlwind of learning, growth, and expanding my horizons in ways I never imagined. I've met amazing people—talented teammates, supportive colleagues, and even lifelong friends. I'd like to give a special shoutout to two people who have made a significant impact on my journey: Michał Mel - An exceptional professional, extremely talented Industry Manager and above all, an amazing person. His support, both personally and professionally, has been invaluable. Bogumiła Grygiencz - From my first interview to becoming my manager, Bogu has been a constant source of knowledge, motivation and encouragement. I couldn't have asked for a better mentor. 2. The future is bright! I can't wait to meet more amazing people and learn new exciting things. 🎉 Seven years ago today, I decided to give Google another chance, and Google decided to give me a second chance. 🥳 From Noogler (new Googler) - joined for the first time in 2014 ➡️ to Troogler (transferring Googler) - changed 6 roles/4 orgs ➡️ to Xoogler (ex-Googler) - left the company in 2015 🎉 and back again! - rejoined on this day 7 years ago! Climbing the corporate ladder was never my forte, but I've embraced the mantra "horizontal is the new up," leading me to my current role as an Internal Mobility Experience Partner. I not only do it, I live it! 😉 As a lifelong learner, Google's support for growth beyond promotions is unmatched. For me it is about pursuing my learning passions, whether that's getting a Master's, PhD, certificates, public speaking opportunities, or exploring diverse career paths (like my jump from sales to HR!). As well as access to some of the brightest minds in the world as my leaders, managers, coaches, mentors, and peers - a benefit that's hard to match. What's it really like to work at Google? Let me tell you...... A month has flown by since I joined the incredible team at Google! It's been an exhilarating journey filled with constant learning and growth. Curiosity, as they say, is the mother of invention, and I've been feeding mine daily. Every challenge, every problem to solve has been an opportunity to learn something new and push my boundaries. Networking here is on another level. Connecting with brilliant minds from diverse backgrounds has enriched my perspective and opened doors to new possibilities. It's a place where innovation thrives, and everyone is encouraged to bring their authentic selves to work. I can't believe I'm finally saying this: I’m starting my journey at Google! Seventeen years ago, when I saw the first report about Google's offices, I promised myself that one day I would work there. I asked ex-Googlers about the good ✅ and bad 🛑 of working at Google ➤ Kuai Yu was a New Grad in 2016 ✅ Google has a prestigious brand; externally, people will assume you're smart. 🛑 Googlers are too comfortable. Many don't have an ambition or desire to learn anything new. ➤ Nitesh Donti was a Senior Eng until 2022 ✅ Dev tooling is incredible 🛑 Google has a promotion-driven culture. Every perf review has many steps and people 'playing the game.' ➤ Max Gu was a Mid-Level Eng until 2020 ✅ Google had many smart people with diverse backgrounds. 🛑 Too much process to get things done, e.g. writing a design docs. Some engineers refused to do work that didn't benefit their promotion. ➤A Stanford graduate was a New Grad in 2014 ✅ Google is an amazing foundation for a career. It has world-class people, cutting-edge projects, and unmatched perks. 🛑 Burdensome restrictions on activities outside of Google. He felt uncomfortable publishing a side project or blog as an employee. ➤ Anon joined Google at L3 (Entry-Level) despite having 3+ YoE ✅ People were smart. Unlike prior companies, he never felt like Googlers were illogical in discussions. 🛑 Letting a problem explode and fixing it gives you more recognition compared to preventing the problem. After two amazing years, I'm thrilled to announce my promotion to Senior Account Manager at Google! Here are some of the things I've learned: 𝐀𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐲𝐦-𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐝𝐝𝐨𝐧: Acronyms are the lifeblood of any good business. The more acronyms, the higher the stock price... probably. 𝐓𝐋𝐃𝐑 𝐅𝐓𝐖:  To those who start emails with "tldr," I owe you a debt of gratitude. You've saved me countless hours. 𝐃𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐃𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭: I've never been exposed to so many different languages and cultures in one place. Google's commitment to diversity and inclusion is truly next level. 𝐒𝐡𝐲𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐎𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥: Smile, be yourself, and put yourself out there. We're all a little awkward sometimes, but those internal connections make us better at facing the external world. 𝐌𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐊𝐢𝐧𝐠 (𝐨𝐫 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐞𝐧):  Whether it's brand love or performance, always have a clear picture of what success looks like. 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐟𝐚𝐬𝐭 = 𝐁𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐟𝐚𝐬𝐭: If your company offers free breakfast, never. leave. (Seriously, it's the best perk ever.) 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐇𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐬: Learn a few phrases in a different language. It's easier than remembering names. "Naai man" = fresh trim. "Yallah" = basically anything. 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐜: Find your mentors. They'll challenge you, collaborate with you, and be your biggest cheerleaders. 𝐄𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐢𝐝𝐞: Embrace every opportunity and everyone around you. Who you are is what got you here, let that shape the work you do.  𝐂𝐚𝐧'𝐭 𝐅𝐢𝐱 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟎𝟐 𝐆𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐥 (𝐒𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐲!): Just because I work at Google doesn't mean I can magically recover your first Gmail account from the early 2000s. I just realized that I never got a chance to inform my LinkedIn connections about my career over the past year. TL;DR: I joined Google! I still remember my first day at Google —walking through the doors with a mix of excitement and curiosity. Like every other Noogler, I have heard a lot about the company and now it was time for me to experience it first hand. It was a dream come true, and I was eager to learn, grow, and make an impact. Fast forward to today, and I’m proud of how far I’ve come. From overcoming challenges, leading initiatives, collaborating with talented teams, and constantly pushing the boundaries, this journey has been nothing short of transformative. Now, I have officially left the Noogler behind and have become a Googler in true sense!
