Great insights shared at Spring ONUG! I fully agree with Ali Shaikh that the days of engineers building configuration on devices are coming to an end. The networks of tomorrow will be operated and managed in a manner where applications/machines, guided by or with AI, will build data paths on demand with the characteristics required. It’s hard to believe that two weeks have already passed since our day at the Savoy for the Digital Infra Network "The Rise of AI" conference. The venue was great and the discussions on the increasing power requirements for the new AI infrastructure were insightful. It’s clear we have a busy time ahead!
This presentation will offer a glimpse into the latest developments within the SONiC AI Working Group.
We will cover progress in key areas Network fabrics for AI, Routing and network design, Congestion Control and Load Balancing.
Attendees will gain insights into the challenges and solutions related to SONiCs support for AI clusters, the already identified gaps and the next steps on the agenda.
Join us to explore how SONiC is evolving to meet the demands of high-performance, low-latency network architectures tailored for AI clusters and GPU-accelerated workloads

Greece is among seven European Union nations selected by the European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC) to establish and operated one of Europe’s first artificial intelligence (AI) factories with funding from the European Commission and national sources.
Pharos, the new Greek AI Factory, to exploit DAEDALUS, the EuroHPC supercomputer currently under deployment in Greece, aims to address national and European AI needs in health, culture and language, and sustainability (energy, environment, climate) by offering end-to-end user support (from upskilling, dataset provision and AI model training to business innovation support) and engaging the national and European AI ecosystem.

While I ran a workshop on compliance with ISO 42001 (AI Management Standard) today, sharing the actual work I have done on AI impact assessments in large corporations over the past few years, preceded by a decade of academic research, this workshop funded by Open Philanthropy, which I was told I could not attend 'due to lack of space' ran. I was not the only one excluded.
I understand that Australian academia and government are hollowed out financially. I do not accept the financial involvement of Open Philanthropy in AI governance events, which has a clear track record and is deeply problematic. Even more problematic is the exclusion of actual experts who do this work.

'With EAs founding and funding institutes, companies, think tanks, and research groups in elite universities dedicated to the brand of “AI safety” popularized by OpenAI, we are poised to see more proliferation of harmful models billed as a step toward “beneficial AGI.” And the influence begins early: Effective altruists provide “community building grants” to recruit at major college campuses, with EA chapters developing curricula and teaching classes on AI safety at elite universities like Stanford.'
Australian academia, do better. Include the experts and don't accept money from white supremacist tech bros who ring-fence conversations. Directly, as the logo at the event below shows, or indirectly, as is also the case with this workshop. You are on notice as to what this funding means. And to anyone who takes money from these folk going forward - beware what you will be asked to argue and defend. This is not like other funding.
Talk to others in other fields who have gone down this path and see where it ends. (Sorry Ali Akbari - not attacking you, as you know -but the process and these opaque meetings pushing agendas that are deeply problematic and distract from our real work).
