Something i liked from a quick glance through the Cannes shortlists. Some (all?) of the best work is just observing the world and finding something interesting to react to. https://lnkd.in/dHzhYks4

I am happy to be part of the #TSSS2024. Many have touted the importance of a due diligence process. While traditionally #DueDiligence = Requisite Care (reasonable steps taken by a person to satisfy a legal requirement, especially when buying or selling something), it can be more. We recommend Seafood Supply Chain Due Diligence (#SSCDD) be a systematic, ongoing risk management process that enables companies to proactively address their environmental and human rights impacts and conduct their business in a responsible manner. #FishWise #SeafoodLegacy

Have you ever considered what it takes to truly call yourself an expert? What’s your area of specialisation, and how long did it take you to reach that level of mastery? Last weekend, I attended the Kirkcudbright Fringe, an arts and culture festival in—you guessed it—Kirkcudbright, located in the southwest of Scotland. My dad was giving a talk on one of his specialist subjects: the Levellers. No, not the band, but the 1724 revolt of peasant farmers against the landowners who sought to evict them from their land around Kirkcudbright to profit from the growing cattle economy. Unlike similar revolts, such as those by the Diggers in the 17th century, the Levellers in Scotland are less well-known. There are no Billy Bragg songs or anthems by whiskey, vodka, lager and cider drink loving anarcho-punks Chumbawamba celebrating them. It’s through the dedicated research of local historians like my dad that people are even aware of what happened in this part of the country 300 years ago. This particular talk at the Kirkcudbright Fringe marked a 50-year personal journey for my dad, which began in 1974 when he first set out to piece together the Levellers' story. Becoming an expert in something takes time—often much longer than we realise. So, the next time you meet an expert, remember: behind their deep knowledge lies years of dedication, a personal story, and an extraordinary commitment to mastering their craft. P.S. I helped with the presentation slides because that's apparently my specialist subject.

A few days ago, I was sent an ad for Albert Heijn (a Dutch supermarket). The person who sent it was very confused and wanted to know what the ad was actually for because it was a little hamster training to "Eye of the Tiger". Albert Heijn in the Netherlands is known for these hamster commercials. They have been making them for over twenty years to promote something called "Hamsterweeks". These weeks usually take place in January and at the end of the summer. Products are sold for lower prices, which means that people can buy more of them and create a little stockpile for when prices are higher. Why are they called Hamsterweken? Because 'hamsteren' means stocking up on food for times when there is less around. This is based on the behaviour of the little creatures in the ad below. Since hamsters have only a very short period of time to find food in the wild, they find as much as they can and keep it somewhere safe for when there is none. #English #Dutch #commercial #albertheijn #hamsteren #translator #translations #marketing

Join The Pacific Institute's Winners Circle Network: https://lnkd.in/edPEwf6G Here's the weekly message if you missed the email: The Underlying Message When we judge or disparage behaviors in others, it often leads to deeper self-discovery. When we see things about others that we don't like, it can teach us something about ourselves. For example, if we think, "He is angry, and I don't like that," it may be because we are angry ourselves. If we see someone being scared, it may be because we are scared about something we wish we could do. For example, if we disapprove of smoking but don't smoke ourselves, it may be because we also do unhealthy behaviors that trouble us. Or, we may disapprove because we consider smoking inconsiderate, which may be the same inconsiderate behavior we also do. When we look within ourselves, we often find a similar personal judgment about ourselves. By understanding our true actions, we can decide to stop and take corrective actions. So, pay attention next time you disapprove of someone else, and see what you can learn about yourself.

In the journey towards redemption and societal reintegration, supporting individuals with criminal convictions to make a fresh start is a mission close to my heart, as I personally understand the profound challenges and complexities involved. Our promotional video delves into the critical importance of offering a second chance to those determined to turn their lives around. It underscores the transformative power of empathy, structured support, and the removal of societal barriers that often hinder reintegration. By embracing our comprehensive approach to disclosures which include vocational training, ongoing peer mentor support, and community engagement, we can create a pathway that not only empowers individuals to rebuild their lives but also enhances societal well-being. We also work to support the open minded people that are willing to offer opportunities to those that are working hard to earn them. This video captures why we do what we do, because, we recognise the potential for change and growth within every individual, regardless of their past. Get involved in this vital conversation so we can close the revolving doors and build a future where everyone has the opportunity to contribute positively to society🩵 https://lnkd.in/e3xc6_Tf
