The telecom industry is shifting its focus from market share to sustained monetisation cycle with Reliance #Jio and Bharti #Airtel completing their urban 5G rollouts, analysts said, adding that telcos will now be looking at a higher tariff of 20-25 percent, compared to the earlier expectation of a 15 percent hike. With tariff hikes, and urban 5G coverage, Indian telcos are shifting focus on ARPU improvement, besides driving #5G use cases like FWA to develop new revenue streams for return on its investments

📢 Strategic Update: Telecom Tariff Increases 📢 India's major telecom providers—Reliance Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea—have announced significant tariff hikes for prepaid and postpaid plans, effective this week. This development is set to impact both consumers and businesses in profound ways. Key Changes: - Reliance Jio: Tariff increase of 12-25% (e.g., the Rs 239 plan will now cost Rs 299, a 25% rise). - Airtel: Prices up by 11-21%. - Vodafone Idea: Hikes ranging from 10-21%. Impact on Businesses: 1. Increased Operational Costs: Companies relying heavily on mobile data and communication services will see an uptick in their operational expenses. 2. Budget Reallocation: Firms may need to adjust their budgets to accommodate the higher telecom costs, potentially affecting other areas of investment. 3. Enhanced Service Quality: The price hikes are aimed at funding advanced technologies like 5G, which can lead to better connectivity and service quality, benefiting business operations in the long term. Strategic Recommendations: - Audit Telecom Usage: Review your organization's telecom usage to identify cost-saving opportunities. Consider negotiating corporate plans with providers. - Leverage Annual Plans: Encourage employees to recharge with annual plans before the tariff hike to lock in current rates. - Explore Alternatives: Investigate alternative communication solutions, such as VoIP services, to mitigate increased costs. Long-Term Benefits: While the immediate increase in telecom costs might pose challenges, the investment in 5G technology promises superior connectivity and enhanced service reliability. This can drive innovation, improve productivity, and create new opportunities for growth in the digital economy. Final Thoughts: As the telecom industry evolves, businesses must stay agile and proactive. Embracing these changes can help turn potential challenges into strategic advantages. This is a crucial time for companies to reassess their telecom strategies and ensure they are positioned for success in a rapidly changing landscape. #TelecomUpdate #BusinessStrategy #RelianceJio #Airtel #VodafoneIdea #5G #TechInnovation #CorporatePlanning #IndustryInsight #DigitalTransformation

Jio to become world's largest 5G standalone only network with affordable services: India's biggest telecom operator Reliance Jio expects to become the world's largest player having a pure 5G network this year with promise to provide services at affordable rates to the masses, a senior official of the company said. Speaking to the PTI at the Mobile World Congress, Reliance Jio President Mathew Oommen said India needs inclusive growth and Jio will continue to support it. "Jio will be the largest 5G SA (standalone) only network operator in the world in the second half of 2023, ensuring that all advanced services and capabilities are available affordably to the masses," Oommen said. He was responding to questions around the company's 5G roll out plan and Jio's competitor Bharti Airtel pushing for an increase in mobile call and data services price. Jio has focussed on rolling out 5G SA while Bharti Airtel is rolling out 5G (NSA) non-standalone network which can provide a mix of 5G and 4G services. "India needs inclusive growth. Jio will continue to support India's inclusive growth," Oommen said. Bharti Airtel Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal earlier this week said mobile call and data rates will go up this year as the return on capital in the telecom business is very low. Airtel had last month increased the price of its minimum recharge or the entry-level for the 28-day mobile phone service plan by about 57 per cent to Rs. 155 in eight circles.

Telecom master strategy and its implications: "Empower Your Connection: Understand Your Telecom, Optimize Your Choices." 📱 The 28-Day Validity Strategy The 28-day validity strategy is a clever move by telecom companies to increase their revenue. By offering 28-day validity, telecom companies effectively make users pay for 13 months instead of 12 in a year. This is because 12 months of 28-day validity only cover 336 days, which is 29 days less than a year of 365 days. As a result, users tend to recharge for one extra pack to complete the cycle. For instance, as of July 2022, Airtel had 35.48 Crore users. If these users recharge for the Airtel Rs 179 plan with 28 days validity, the company would earn around Rs 6,350 crore. Similarly, Jio, with around 40.8 crore subscribers, would earn around Rs 8,527 crore in 28 days. This strategy significantly boosts the companies' revenue. Impact of Plan Price Hikes A 25-30% hike in plan prices can significantly boost telecom companies' revenue. However, it also affects consumer spending behavior. With rising costs, consumers may choose to pursue substitutes (in terms of competitors and/or technologies) where price changes are substantial. For instance, worldwide spending on telecommunication and pay TV services will reach $1.55 trillion in 2023, an increase of 3.0% over 2022. This shows that despite the price hikes, the demand for telecom services is still growing, albeit at a slower pace. Why Only a Few Companies Operate in the Telecom Sector? The telecom sector is a high-entry-barrier industry. It requires substantial capital investment, regulatory approvals, and advanced technological infrastructure. This is why we see only a few major players in most markets. In the U.S., for example, the big three traditional firms are AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile. In India, as of JUNE 2024, the top five service providers were Reliance Jio Infocom Ltd (470.19 million), Bharti Airtel (264.76 million), Vodafone Idea (127.29 million), and BSNL (25.12 million). In conclusion, the telecom industry's strategies are carefully crafted to optimize revenue while navigating the delicate balance of consumer spending behavior. As consumers, understanding these strategies can help us make more informed decisions about our telecom services. #TelecomStrategy #ConsumerBehavior #TelecomIndustry
