Interesting Paid Program piece on liquid cooling to support AI quoting Sean Graham at IDC and Michael McNerney at Supermicro. Liquid cooling is indeed relevant to support AI deployment in DCs and there are three options: direct to chip, in-rack and immersion. However, it is our view it is single phase liquid immersion at scale like Firmus Technologies that is the true north for supporting the next generations of AI GPU compute. https://lnkd.in/gFQ_nerd

Nanometer-scale AI chips and big pieces of wood -- what do they have in common? Both are examples in recent days of suppliers moving in the construction value chain to better align with Owner Outcomes. First, NVIDIA offering in partnership with Schneider Electric and others a standardized data center design: https://lnkd.in/gCpqxdz9 Second, Mercer Mass Timber debuting construction services offering: https://lnkd.in/gDy2fnr3 . In both cases, the supplier has a product that is key to a desired owner outcome: supporting AI cloud workloads / a low embodied carbon structure. In both cases, there are complexities to the owner realizing that benefit: power density / installation issues such as tolerance differences between mass timber and steel. In both cases, the supplier is bringing something new to the market, with the potential to shake up other parts of the value chain. It's going to be exciting seeing where this goes, what works with owners, and what adaptations the value chain can support.
