after 4 days holiday work start again

We are home after a wonderful 3 week holiday in Spain with friends and family. Being able to work from anywhere is such a privilege, and this was a test run for building a life full of freedom. Can I travel and work? Can I support my business while in another country? Can I work in the morning and explore and have fun in the afternoon? People talk about work/life balance all the time. I believe it’s important to have boundaries, but we get to build and design our lives. I love what I do for work, so I don’t feel that a couple of hours work here and there takes me out of relaxation. The more relaxed I am the more creative I become and that tends to manifest as ideas for business. You hear so many stories of people working their whole lives to then retire and instantly become ill or pass away. I don’t want my life to be built around a day in the future. I want to live for today. What do you envisage is part of your life when you retire? Or when you’ve hit that income goal? How can you bring elements of that into your life today?

𝗜 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗮 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗮𝘁: 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝘃𝗮𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Almost a decade ago, my company underwent significant organizational changes. Freshly promoted to director, I was thrilled about my first trip to Europe, with an itinerary that included Dublin, Barcelona, and Amsterdam. But just a week before my departure, an organizational shake-up hit: I would have a new leader. Caught between the awkwardness of leading my peers and onboarding a new boss, I couldn’t see how a two-week vacation was feasible or smart. So, I convinced myself the right thing to do for my career was to cancel the trip and revisit it later. You can guess how this story ends. A decade later, I still haven’t rescheduled that trip. And guess what? The company, the team, and my job would have survived those two weeks. It would have been a blip in the year of change, and everyone would have understood and managed. Stepping away could have offered me a clearer perspective and a much-needed recharge. Instead, I learned the hard way that life happens, and work will always be there. Week # 1 of my summer vacation is ending and I am still searching for the deepest meaning of my this year vacation… First days when you suddenly get to pause do feel bit strange. Mind still tries to wander back to current matters. Then soon I remember that I do not need to go there, that all is now taken care of by others. Just as we reset our computers, it is now time to reset this mind, too ✅ So far I haven’t planned anything big nor really made it far from my home but I do have been thinking where would it be fun to go? Our planet is so full of amazing places AND people - or especially people - So I get to dream where would I go if there were no limitations of finances, time or even energy. When travelling far, even time distance can cause more need to recover afterwards - Therefore it is good to consider carefully what to do and where to go. So here I am, by the beautiful lake nearby me ⚓️ just enjoying the feeling when there is no need to rush anywhere - And at this moment, it is all that I need. However, I think I would go to the West as far as the United States or East as far as India… If I felt to do a bigger trip. Though there are many other countries I’ve been invited to come for visit as well. How about you? Where would you go? In 2018 I landed my first job with unlimited vacation and was so excited about it. Until my boss told me: “You’re taking too much time off, and as a leader, the optics aren’t good.” “Isn’t it unlimited vacation?” I asked. Suddenly, one of the benefits that had influenced my decision to take the job had been taken away from me. I realized that the belief that I could be trusted to manage my time and not worry about counting a limited number of days off wasn’t real, and that the promise of the unlimited vacation was more of a recruiting strategy than anything else. Today I’m enjoying the beginning of a 4 day weekend, guilt-free. I could take longer if I wanted to, but I enjoy my work. But the point is that I can now make these choices for myself. It may seem like a small, but being able to take a day off when needed to recharge, alleviate burnout, and feel in control is priceless. What’s your definition of freedom in your work and schedule?
