Some of you will recognize these lines, at least the “band of brothers” part. Title of a book by Stephen E Ambrose and then a series on HBO developed by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks. And first spoken here, by King Henry V when facing the army of France. The simple words have such power they burst into the 21st century, more than 400 years after they were first spoken. Why? Why does Henry V say that? More specifically, why does Shakespeare have his character Henry V say that? This character is presented as a great leader facing seemingly insurmountable odds. Between the moment of realizing they are completely outnumbered and doomed to failure and the moment the battle is over and they have achieved an incredible victory, Shakespeare sets up a scene where the convinces the troops they can win. He gets them to believe in themselves. He does it by saying what they need to hear. Before Henry V speaks, he spends the night listening, finding out what his troops are most afraid of. Then he knows how to address those fears and present a vision of the future where they can and will succeed. Knowing what your people need to hear, what they need from you is a timeless leadership principle. Shakespeare’s plays are full of these. When you speak timeless leadership, you are essentially speaking Shakespeare. #timelessleadership #speakingShakespeare #Shakespeare

What are the military core values in the US and the UK, “What I have learnt by research and study”, (According to Harvard and Oxford Universities) Core values and fundamental principles for soldiers include: `in reference to; The art of War` Loyalty: Soldiers are loyal to the Army and are ready to do what it asks. Duty: Soldiers live by the values of duty, respect, selfless service, honour, integrity, and personal courage. Courage: Soldiers must know what is right and be brave enough to do it. Discipline: Soldiers must follow the rules and be responsible for themselves. Respect for others: Soldiers must show respect and tolerance for others and be able to put themselves in their shoes. Integrity: Soldiers must always be honest, sincere, reliable, and selfless. Soldiers learn these values during Basic Combat Training (BCT) and live them every day, both on and off the job. Core values are a yardstick for measuring an organization's success, and they help to build trust and align teams. How Many people know what the words Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honour, Integrity, and Personal Courage mean? But how often do you see someone actually live up to them? It is to be Human and do whatever it takes to serve and protect, within self-control and the value of life, whether you’re the aggressor or the enemy, each has respect for the other, and they fight on equal abilities and arms, hand to hand combat, that is honour. I was brought up to respect my elders and betters, I was taught to protect my family and people, and I was inspired to stand up for those who are vulnerable, the weak, disabled, children and overall, the women in our family and community. Where are the Values and Principles in these situations? Mike J Baker (Author)

FLOATING ON A WILD SEA This quote from Shakespeare (with thanks to Shoffner) might also apply to the cruel and power-happy majority of the Supreme Court. An example is the current case where those far-right extremists are likely to attack the Obstruction of Justice law regarding J6--even though the Court is supposed to only interpret this and other laws, not try to destroy what Congress and the President have already legitimately passed. This Grand Inquisition, including misogyny and crusading for more power over Congress, the President and the public, backs up MAGA beliefs in a "deep state" (though SCOTUS itself is now far along the path of leading that state), and dissing the other federal branches of our democracy. So the MAGA majority of the Supreme Court, including the unethical acts of the "religion-first" Alito and the non-recusing Thomas, whose wife supported the very same insurrectionists, once again is making up new law. The Obstruction of Justice statute is plain as a sunny day, but the extremist crusaders who constitute the SCOTUS majority are using it to take over some of the essential and Constitutionally unequivocal powers of Congress. Greater Court power requires a less powerful President as well as Congress. Despots like Putin also don't worry about a balance of power with other leaders and institutions in his country. Ideologically, MAGA is Putinism, American-style. If the exact same J6 attack--including the insurrectionists' intent to murder, even hang certain people, plus the actual murder of Capitol Policemen, and the MAGA disdain of democracy itself--had occurred inside and around the Supreme Court building itself rather than the US Capitol, the Court would never have accepted this case in the first place. The Justices of the SCOTUS majority "know not what [they] fear:" "otherwise" (or other than) the fear that it will play a lesser role than the other two branches of the federal government. So five or sometimes six Justices are re-writing the Constitution as they please, with powers not backed up--or even mentioned--by that founding document. Always dubious, the SCOTUS majority's "originalism" has been proven mistaken if not fraudulent. This vague approach is now dead. In fact, the majority's doctrine is the opposite: changing the Constitution day by day as it pleases, ignoring strict ethical guardrails and exercising blatantly immoral obsessions of power over others, most often involving women. While half the nation is worried about Trump's authoritarian approach, the real dictators--if that's what we let them be--will come from SCOTUS. That's why this SCOTUS majority's mission is to allay their fear that they are not more powerful than the other branches. But they are not supposed to be more powerful--this is not an old Royal House of Lords; they are meant to be equal to the other branches. Each is separate and no one "strongman" or religious group rules. ##GrandInquisition #SCOTUSmajority #MAGA
