More evidence that 'diversity' initiatives, in isolation, are not working. They can't change mindsets and behaviours where there is no appetite to change. The focus has to shift to inclusion - which benefits everyone. Valuing each individual for their perspectives, background, beliefs and abilities and working together to create equitable cultures, opportunities and pathways. Only by building trust, awareness and psychological safety will organisations start to see real change and progress. #inclusion #balance #equity Balance the Board

Companies are shifting their focus beyond workforce imbalances to examine whether their culture is genuinely inclusive and welcoming to people of all backgrounds. Diverse workforces are becoming a permanent fixture, and most organisations recognise the benefits of successful diversity strategies, including talent attraction and retention. However, handling the backlash against diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts remains a challenge. Attacks on DEI have led some companies to backtrack from their commitments, but countering this backlash involves demonstrating the value of diversity for everyone. While many organizations try to be diverse, the progress is not as expected and the numbers are still low. This situation puts organizations in a tough decision. They fear admitting diversity is still low because it damages the organization's reputation. Although disclosing low diversity numbers could have negative results, that is not the case. It actually shows authenticity and willingness to tell the truth. It also shows good faith and commitment to diversity.
