This ingenious invention just changed the game. You don't need multi-million ideas to change lives. In the slums of the Philippines, there are often electricity shortages, Or even no access to electricity at all. The homes are small. Often built on top of each other. So they can be dark with little light. But this ingenious invention has changed that. Here's how it works: - Drill a hole in the roof - Fill a water bottle with water - Place the bottle securely in the roof And voila. An electricity free lighting method. Sustainable. Ingenious. Free. A great example of inventive thinking and the circular economy. After installation, this solar light bulb can provide approximately 55 watts of light from the sun! This invention is from Liter of Light a brilliant movement teaching green skills and creating green jobs for communities on the front lines of climate change. ♻️ Repost this to help your network Follow Dan Sherrard-Smith for more

The sad aspect of this is that there are people in the rich world (Rosalie Mann) who want us to believe it is more important to burn or bury another hundred million plastic bottles instead of just ending the production of them! Trying to impose the costs of Western folly on the poorest humans on the planet and the ones who even now contribute almost nothing to the crisis is just criminal. It is high time we got our own house in order and stopped blaming others! No one is claiming that using plastic bottles to help children learn to read and write is some idyllic 'circular economy'. It is an ingenious reuse of Western flotsam, much like the footwear made from car tires seen all over much of Africa. That is all it is! #climatejustice

Once you start seeing these stories of simple ingenuity to solve universal problems, it really makes you wonder… Are the world’s smart, wealthy, successful and abundant focused on solving problems? Or are they focused on creating deeper, more entrenched ones so that we never wean ourselves of our dependence on them? Simulated comfort - entertainment and consumption - dulls our natural intelligence. AI may make it worse… or it may awaken the intuition we all have that there must be a better, simpler way Thanks for sharing Dan. Amos, Ian - you’ll both love this Dan, Justin - sharing as one simple example of the stories I was talking about on our calls yesterday

This actually has been around for years. It it simple, but sometimes it's information on good news that's lacking ... we have solutions, we need to spread the word as well as the solutions.

Love this. Also, I think that even with a little bacterostatic chlorine added, this could be imbibed as potable in a real fresh water emergency. 😎 As regards nightime: Solar lights that shine all night are getting more efficient and cheaper especially with the UN's "Lighting Africa" Initiative, encouraging and identifying performance and sustainable off grid lighting WORLWIDE. https://sdgs.un.org/partnerships/lighting-africa-initiative Also, "Lighting Global", an innovation from the World Bank, estimates that Off-grid Solar could provide first-time electricity access to almost 400 million people globally by 2030. https://www.lightingglobal.org/

Love the idea, stuck to the simple rule, KIS and this could help so many people. To those who cry out due to the use of plastic bottles, simply change it to a glass bottle but keep the base idea.
