A QUICK REINTRODUCTION OF MYSELF AND WHAT I DO WHO I AM My name is Olayori Daniel Olawale Imole(No vex ,I get plenty names 😅,are they plenty tho?) I'm a graphic designer and a brand strategist(The grammar is big abi? You will understand in a short while) Alot of times when people ask me "what is your name?" And I tell them "Dan light" more often than none I get questions like "What does that mean?" "Why choose that name?" bla bla bla, now let me break it down "Dan light is a combination of two of my names so it's not a nickname,it's actually my brand name and my name too (Dan)iel Light(Imole) "Dan" from Daniel( like my Pastor do call me) and "Light"from the English translation of Imole. WHY SHOULD YOU WORK WITH ME There are over a 100 million graphic designer in the world ,why should you choose me to work on your designs? (I'm pitching already right? Lemme alone, let me do part of what I can do best) These days when you check people's profile in alot of bios and you see "Graphic designer" listed alongside with many other occupations, we are even in a day and age when anybody can just simply go on Canva, search for templates and edit it or simply ask AI to generate designs for them so why should you bother choosing me when you even have to pay(The thought of paying alone scares alot of people 😅) Well I don't just make beautiful designs I also make them functional ( I know there are laymans here so I'll explain it in layman terms) A design can be fine and yet be useless or not serve the purpose it's meant to serve ,designs are meant to solve problems and not just entertain the viewers(entertaining the viewers in itself can be a purpose too tho'). For example, you don't expect the cover design for a cartoon to be made the same way the cover design of a thriller movie would be made ,a cartoon cover design will most likely be an illustration with lots of cool clouds and bubbling colours while the thriller movie wouldn't be an illustration (of course except it's an anime) and will carry a well detailed crafted background that tells the story of the movie with some of the main actors arranged well and the title written in a eye- catching way. You don't expect a cartoon cover image to be made that way because the kids you hope to target with the design wouldn't be fascinated by that or even have time to give cognisance or pay attention to how the background looks ,what they want to see is the colors and beautiful weird drawings of the characters, and that will automatically bring about a low view count for that movie , of course the principles of designs might hace been well followed and a beautiful design came out but it wasn't functional and of course didn't solve a problem but added to it . And for those making social media designs for their brand ,I don't just make the designs and leave it at that ,I follow you and monitor how you can use those designs I make for you to bring about growth #dan_light #introduction

Ever accidentally found your passion? Let me share how I stumbled upon mine!" Let me share a story from before I became a graphic designer. Back then, I was just messing around with Photoshop for fun. I had to design a slam book cover for a class project. I thought, "Why not put our university library and entrance on the cover?" But here's the funny part - I didn't know how to use the masking tool! I didn't know about tools and how to use them . So, I tried to erase parts of the library with a brush tool to merge it with the entrance. Let me tell you, it was a total mess! 😂 Now I think of that and laugh because that was a mess , without clarity . And now I know why my group mate laughed after seeing that MASTERPIECE 🤣. But that messy project sparked my interest in design. I didn't stop there, however. I kept trying new things. Why? Because finding your passion takes time and trying different stuff. So, don't be afraid to experiment. You might discover something amazing! It is said: "Passion is the fuel that drives us forward; keep exploring until you ignite the fire within." PS: What's the craziest thing you have ever done? share in the comments. found it funny or motivated? Thoughts Every Graphic Designer and Video Editor Can Relate To 💫 “Fonts: My Endless Obsession!” How is it possible to have 1,000 fonts installed, and yet I still feel like I don’t have the right one? 🤔🎨 Fonts are not just letters; they’re the personality of the design. Choosing the right one can make or break the vibe! 💫“Every Frame Tells a Story… Or Does It?” Editing a 10-second video feels like crafting a cinematic masterpiece. Why does it take 10 hours?! 🎥⏳ Precision is an art, and every second edited is a step closer to perfection. 💫“Ctrl + S is My Best Friend” The anxiety of a crash mid-project is real. 😱💻 “Have I saved the project in the last 5 minutes? Better save it again, just in case.” 💫“Feedback: The Love-Hate Relationship” Client: 'Can you make it pop?' Me: 'What does that even mean?!’ 😅💡 The revision process is where creativity meets patience, especially when “can you add more jazz?” is the brief. 💫“Deadlines Fuel Creativity” Procrastination until the last moment is not a habit; it's a lifestyle. 😎🕒 There's something magical about the adrenaline rush of last-minute edits. 💫“Colors Speak Louder Than Words” Am I the only one spending hours adjusting a color shade that no one will notice? 🌈🎨 Color correction and grading are like creating a secret code for emotions. 💫“Stock Media Searches Are an Adventure” Why is it easier to find a needle in a haystack than the perfect stock image or clip? 🤷♂️📸 "Maybe if I type 'happy yet mysterious person holding a coffee in a foggy forest,' I’ll find it.” 💫“Why Do Layers Always Betray Me?” Where is that one layer I forgot to name? 😤🖌️ The struggle of managing 300 unnamed layers is a rite of passage. 💫“Creative Block Is Real!” Staring at a blank canvas or timeline is a whole mood. 😵💫✍️ "Let me scroll for ‘inspiration’ for a few hours and hope the ideas start flowing." 💫“Perfect Doesn’t Exist—But I’ll Keep Trying” Tweaking the tiniest details like my life depends on it. 🤏✨ Designers and editors know there’s no such thing as perfection, but that doesn’t stop us from chasing it! #graphicdesigners #videoeditors #contentcreator #digitalcreator

I could say I’m the number one graphic artist in LA, but some guys will get mad on me. So most likely I’m the best second one. Let me share a humorous anecdote about my journey as a self-taught graphic artist. Back in the early days of my job at a printing company near Skid Row in downtown LA, I was immersed in creating a detailed floral design for the Missy market. My fingers danced swiftly on the keyboard, navigating through Photoshop with ease. With easy for real. At one point, I noticed someone staring over my shoulder. He complimented my skills, to which I responded politely, offering to help with anything related to Photoshop. ”Please ask me” Surprisingly, he revealed he had over five thousand hours of experience with the software. (And I though wow that’s a lot time!) And then silence. Silence. More silence. So I continue working. And thinking. And working. This encounter taught me a valuable lesson: ego can hinder learning new skills. Those who believe they know everything often miss out on valuable insights. I firmly believe that true professionals are eager to share their knowledge. I've always enjoyed sharing my skills because I believe the more I share, the more I learn. Well between typing shortcuts and thinking how to improve the floral designs passing about five minutes and and finally he said: Wow, how you do that? What is the shortcut? Where did you get that kill? As the conversation progressed, we delved into shortcuts, techniques, and design strategies. Despite his extensive experience, he found value in learning from others. Fast forward to today, I realize that the number of hours is insignificant compared to the willingness to learn and apply those skills to solve customers' problems effectively. Being humble in learning new design skills opens doors to endless possibilities and continuous improvement skills to six our customers problems. By the way that happed in 2002 and I had about seven thousand hours with photoshop already ja ja. Again it is no important. Lear, share and learn is more important. Buzz me maybe I would like to work with you. Edel 323 363 8673 nobodyaskedmedesign.com

Is there such a thing as over-editing? When something is edited, it generally has a positive connotation, where nothing is in access. Like a wardrobe edit, where every choice of clothing is intentional, or an edited version of a movie, where all the bloopers are removed. But, there is such a thing as over-editing, where too much of a good thing is removed, and there is a lack of structure and continuity. In graphic design, the concept of editing really plays out when it comes to the visual appeal of your design. Just like in other forms of editing, in graphic design, the process involves refining and enhancing elements to communicate a specific message or evoke a particular response. You don’t want to ever lose that– because that’s the whole point! Editing in graphic design can involve removing unnecessary objects, simplifying the visuals, and changing colors and font. Overall, it’s fine-tuning your design so it’s just right. But, one of the biggest mistakes I’ve seen is over-editing. Too much editing can result in a lack of balance, harmony, or visual interest in your design. It can leave it all feeling flat and lifeless. When it comes to editing in Photoshop, its use should center upon improving the design while preserving its integrity. Always. One of the top things I tell new designers is not to over edit a face in Photoshop. Don’t do it. It’s funny because I made this mistake myself once in a major way. I designed my own photo album and sent it to my mother-in-law, and added makeup on to it. I highlighted until I shined, added blush, and made my lips cherry pink. It was way too much. The over-editing I see the most? Over-softening, or airbrushing skin to excess. I know it looks pretty, but it’s not how people actually look and most of us overdo it with this tool. It’s all about making subtle edits and changes. That’s number one. Have you ever gotten carried away with editing one of your designs? Share your experience in comments.

Some of the most important things I have learned in my journey of designing 1. You need to organise your files well because you made need them anytime. Sometimes even the brand may ask after a month to send a particular file or even you may also need to add in your Portfolio at times. 2. Save your files with specific name of the Project. For example you are working on a real estate project you can save your files as real estate 1 or Design 1 or by topic name of the design. It should note be xyz.1 or 111 etc. Save your files in a proper folder and name it nicely. It not only looks professional but also it's easier for you to find the specific files at times required. 3. Make sure you read the scope of work carefully and be clear on what all you are going to provide in the specific time and keep the communication simple and sorted. 4. Do not say yes to all the Projects. Be literally specific on which type of projects you have expertise in, projects that can be great for your portfolio and will add on a lot to your learnings. For example i don't work In medical niche, because I know it's difficult to understand the terms and processes. For you it could be any other niche. 5. Keep learning, experimenting, being true to yourself, learn to handle things with grace. Each day is not the same. This is the life as a Freelance Graphic Designer you have chosen for Yourself.Just live it and give your best each day. P.S. Aj Maine Pura din kuch ni Kia us khushi me kuch Mitha ho jaye☺️☺️ #graphicdesigner #freelance #logo #designer #marketing #socialmedia #storytelling #personalbranding

I don't know how to say any of this eloquently, so here is a quick brain dump/vent: Lately, every time I open LinkedIn, the first thing I see is another graphic designer saying how we "don’t do everything" and that people need to lower their expectations of us. I'm a bit sick of seeing it. I'm also confused as to why someone would do this on LinkedIn, it honestly feels like one of those group chat messages that you send to your colleagues to complain. Maybe I'm missing something, but every post I've seen has complained about skills that I think are actually important for a designer to have. Although, in saying that, I have been looking for a different title because 'graphic designer' doesn't feel like it captures what I do. Maybe I'm biased because I do love the marketing and strategy side of things, and I'm pretty obsessed with hands-on learning – my skillset over the 12 or so years I've been in the industry has never stopped growing, and I'll never say I have all the answers, but you can be sure I'll find them and figure out how to solve a problem. I think the industry has evolved and I know I certainly have had to grow with it instead of digging in my heels and saying no. Unfortunately, the experiences I have had working with other designers have for the most part been disappointing. I have had many clients/managers say I'm a 'unicorn'. I never realised that was actually true (totally thought they were sucking up) until I saw some of it in action. I've been mind-blown a few times by some other designers and their lack of initiative. I do have a few close designers that work like I do - get shit done, whatever the shit may be, and I'm sure there are plenty out there. But I've worked with a lot of people over the years and I hate to say it's not easy to come by. Do I have parts of the job I'm more interested in? Sure. Am I better at those? Yep. Will I stop working completely on anything that isn't in that area? Absolutely not. I am a FULL SERVICE designer, I will do what I can to make it work. If it's even related to graphics or branding, I'll do it. Even if I never have before. Chances are you won't even realise this is a skill I'm learning as we go. I guess I also want to point out that doing the same work every day gets really boring, and loading up your skillset so you can do something different each day keeps it fresh, exciting and fun. I couldn't imagine doing the same thing day after day, and that's a part of the reason I love my job so much. To any graphic designers who do see this, I'm not really here for a debate. This is how I see the industry, and how I work. I respect people that work differently. Now, if you made it this far, tell me, how long have you been in the industry and what age group are you? Kind regards, Young millennial with ~12yrs experience.
