It was an honor to join the Maryland Hospital Association, Maryland Chamber of Commerce, Greater Baltimore Committee, Prince George's Chamber of Commerce, Maryland Workforce Association, TranZed Apprenticeships and many other apprenticeship sponsors and business organizations to support HB650 and SB511. HB650 and SB511 are bills that work to modernize Maryland's apprenticeship system by legislating that the Maryland Department of Labor accurately follow 29 CFR 29, create regulations, and require the Maryland Apprenticeship and Training Council (MATC) to assess every individual nontraditional apprenticeship to determine the appropriate apprentice to journey worker ratio, with a maximum ratio for nontraditional apprenticeships not exceeding 3 apprentices for every 1 journey worker (3:1). Right now, almost every apprenticeship in Maryland, if not every apprenticeship, has a 1 apprentice to 1 journey worker ratio (1:1). Maryland has a goal to reach 60,000 apprentices by 2030. with less than 15,000 apprentices in 2024, and with 6 years to go, it seems unlikely that Maryland will reach its goal without the Maryland Department of Labor modernizing its apprenticeship regulations. We were proud this week to join Employ Prince George's to testify in support of HB 650, which would enhance apprenticeship opportunities for health care professions. Removing barriers to health care education was a key recommendation in our 2022 Workforce Report. Apprenticeships are a tool we can use to help grow and strengthen our hospital workforce. #MDGA24 #MDGA2024 #workforcedevelopment #workforce #apprenticeships

Some cliches for the week; - Every day's a school day - Your never too old to learn new tricks - Take your own medicine So having been an advocate of apprenticeships for the past 13 years or so, this week, at 55, I became an apprentice myself. And am about to start a Leadership apprenticeship. Having not done any studying since university (25 years ago) I have had to overcome some apprehension, the devil on my shoulder and elements of self-doubt. But now my over-riding emotion is excitement, and am looking forward to getting started. #apprentice #apprentices #apprenticeships #skillsgap

The New York Jobs CEO Council, alongside it’s 29 member CEOs including Dr. Selwyn Vickers of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, is committed to democratizing access to the skills and network needed for under-resourced New Yorkers to succeed. Apprenticeship programs are one of the many ways companies can provide direct access to training the talent of the future. Through its high school apprenticeship program in partnership with CareerWise New York, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is creating pathways to careers in the healthcare industry. This apprenticeship program, in action since 2021, provides hands-on training, paid work experience, and a pathway to full-time roles for New York City high school students. From administration to supply chain, MSK is committed to building a skilled workforce while creating economic mobility for the next generation. Recently, MSK celebrated the expansion of this program into careers in radiology, making it the first healthcare company in New York City with this kind of apprenticeship. In fact, MSK is taking apprenticeships one step further by providing apprentices with tuition assistance. MSK CEO Delegate, Jenna Sandker, commends the idea as a continuum pathway of the apprenticeship program’s future. “We are creating economic advancement opportunities by helping these students come into a professional work environment and get real, on-the-job training so they can progress through into a full-time role or pursue formal education using tuition assistance.” Check out how MSK is making it easier for New York talent to make it: https://lnkd.in/gvVg3rfS

🌟 Meet Rebecca, let's hear about her determination and ambition for the future! 🚑 In her recent video, she shared her journey and the thoughtful decision to pursue an apprenticeship as an Associate Ambulance Practitioner instead of the traditional university route. 🎓 Her passion for making a real difference in people's lives shines through every word she speaks. We're inspired by her choice to follow her heart and carve her own path in the world of healthcare. Our apprentices work alongside clinical staff during their mentored phase following a series of classroom study weeks. Focusing on basic skills and building upon these whilst out in practice to become the clinicians of tomorrow. 🌟 #ApprenticeshipJourney #FutureHealthcareLeader #Inspiration

Receiving exam results is daunting enough and then add on top of that the pressure of navigating the future and what options are out there, it truly is a nerve wracking time for young people. It is very unique for someone to have a linear career path but changing your plans does not mean you are any less successful. We are delighted to share Nikki's incredible Modern Apprenticeship success story which has led her to where she is today. After leaving school, Nikki was at Borders College studying Health Care and Social Services HNC. She completed this course but did not want to take it any further in her career, so she thought by doing an apprenticeship this would allow her to gain another qualification while earning. Nikki completed her Business & Administration Modern Apprenticeship with Rewards Training in 2019, whilst working at Bangholm Medical Centre, and has since received continuous promotions to Coder, Reception Supervisor, and now Assistant Practice Manager. When asked what Nikki would say to someone considering an apprenticeship, she said: "Go for it! You will have no regrets. I wish I had done the apprenticeship sooner. I could not have done this without Rewards Training." We're here if any young people, advisers, parents or mentors need support or want to have a chat about Modern Apprenticeships so please reach out to us at https://lnkd.in/gcgazAP #NoWrongPath #ModernApprenticeship #apprenticeships #ResultsDay2024 #resultsday #scotlandresultsday #ScottishResultsday #workbasedlearning #careerprogression #professionaldevelopment DYW Scotland
